APPEARANCE
Kari is a tall girl, standing just over 6 feet in height. She is very slim, something that really is just down to her workaholic nature (which makes it difficult for her to put on weight, to the point where Mimi is usually the one to bring her meals when she's too busy with work to remember). This was an issue for her in the past, but she has it relatively under control now.
Because she's tall and slim there are many who consider her attractive, and that is something that has been a big part of her life. Don't let that fool you, though- Kari is an ex-gang member who knows how to handle herself and absolutely knows how to fight. She has strong muscles running along her arms and legs, often hidden beneath her lab coat and her typically purple clothes- but rest assured, they are there.
She has long purple hair that falls to the small of her back, something she loves about herself. Though some days she may neglect to clean the lab, she never fails to keep her hair neat and clean.
There is a knife scar on her right shoulder and a burn on the back of her left knee, both leftovers from her gang life.

HISTORY
Kari was the 4th and youngest child of a thief and a scam artist. Being the only girl of her family, she was frequently used to play the cute distraction while her brothers stole from many a mark for their family and the gang their family belonged to. She grew up believing she was nothing more than a pawn to be used and never considered otherwise- that is, until she found someone who told her she was worth more. Having spent her whole life as simply a cute distraction or a confused teenager who would ask for help and then steal when guards were down, it was only when she was 17 that she was told for the first time that she could be worth something more.
On that fateful day a boy saw her sitting on her own, waiting for her brothers, and came over to make conversation- more specifically, to ask her which Pokemon she had. She explained she wasn't allowed one and when asked why, couldn't quite answer. After a little while of talking she agreed to meet with him again, excited to see him again despite her fear of him seeing her brothers or her lifestyle.
Over the coming months the pair met often, becoming good friends and eventually a happy couple. He was the son of a pair of scientists, had been given his first Pokemon (a Chimchar, now an Infernape) at age 10 and had spent most of his life with the fire type (who he introduced to Kari as their relationship blossomed). So, for a while, things seemed almost perfect. …However, as time went on, her brothers became aware of Kari's boyfriend and decided to teach her a lesson for her shifting loyalties. Little did they know, the pair already had a plan in mind- Kari had finally found her way out of the life she never wanted, planning to marry her boyfriend and move with him to his parents' home in the Shula region.
Two weeks before the pair were due to sail, three days after their (secret) wedding, all 3 of her brothers challenged her husband to a battle- each of them right after the other. Their plan was to show her that he was too weak to care for her or his Pokemon, while his plan (despite the odds being stacked against him) was to show them he would do anything to fight for his wife. Though the first battle began relatively normally, the brothers quickly began to cheat, sending their Pokemon into what was originally meant to be a 1v1 and overwhelming the poor Infernape with attacks threefold. Before Kari could stop him, her husband instinctively moved to protect his partner Pokemon from the onslaught and was gravely wounded in the process.
He was so badly injured that it was obvious he was never going to make it. Her brothers fled the scene, and she never heard from them since. As a result, she was left completely alone with nowhere else to go. She began living in the nearest Pokemon center in an attempt to get back on her feet, and…a few days later, though she wasn't expecting it, she was contacted by letter. Her husband's parents had written to her asking her to take on the job she had been planning on taking as the professor in Shula so they could bury their son and retire, and with nothing to stay for, she boarded the boat she was meant to board with her husband and sailed across the ocean to the Shula region.
She met her parents-in-law without much ado and they quickly became fond of each other, but it was obvious to both parties that it wasn't how either of them wanted to meet and that being together was painful for everyone involved. And so, after a few months and a little bit of training for Kari's new role, they quickly left with their son's Infernape and left Kari in charge of the lab. She was left feeling at a loss for what to do and more importantly, she didn't want to do anything. She was still hurting.
However, it was a stray Dratini that saved her. The Pokemon had been beaten and battered due to her shiny colors, something that Kari related to. Quickly, she found a bond with the wounded Dratini, naming her Mimi. Mimi needed help and a friend and Kari needed a reason to get up in the mornings, so…using the Dratini as the fuel to her fire, she began to run the lab again. She began operations slowly and carefully at first, but within time she found it was her calling. Yes, her calling was raising young Pokemon, pairing them with new trainers that would care for them well, and researching all she could about the lore and the history of a region she hadn't been born into but was born to belong in.
