Just like any successful forum, Shula has its rules. Make sure you know them before you get started!
● Respect the staff and the other members. Your characters can be as rude and nasty as you want them to be, but anything like that OOC will not be tolerated.
● Shula is PG-13, in accordance with ProBoards' rules. This means keep your swearing, mature content, and etc censored and to a minimum.
● Be a certain level of active - We define 'active' as at least one post per week per character. Unable to keep up with this? Try not to take on too much. This may sound intimidating, but we're really very understanding if you need time!
One month of inactivity is enough to put you on an 'at risk' list for deletion. Once you are on this list, you will get no mod replies and such. If you want to get off of the list, you must reach out to one of the mods and make a post or two in character.
If you are on the list for two months without making a single post or attempt to communicate, you will be 'cleaned out.' This is to keep mods from getting overwhelmed by threads that they have no guarantee will be completed anytime soon, and to keep the site full of active members.
● We are an account per character forum. Only staff can have OOC accounts. You can create as many accounts as you want, as long as you think you can be active and post regularly with all of them.
Also, please set your account's display name to your character's name with proper caps, i.e. Harry Potter. No symbols please!
You may have up to 3 characters before we'll ask you to prove you will remain active by posting as each of them at least once a week. Neglect of one character for another is frowned upon.
In addition, before being able to make a 4th (or 5th, or 6th, etc) character, there's a minimum requirement of 200 posts on all prior characters. That is, 200 posts on Characters A, B, and C respectively before you will be allowed to create character D, and then 200 posts on character D before being able to create character E.
● No power playing. That means you can't control anyone else's character or how they will react to anything your character says or does.
As an example, "Johnny pushed Joanna so that she fell on the ground" is not allowed. An appropriate replacement would be something along the lines of "Johnny pushed Joanna," and from there on only Joanna can decide if she fell down or not.
Power playing is only allowed as long as both role-players have agreed on it beforehand. If this is the case, please put a little footnote on the bottom of the post or something so that the mods know not to take action.
● Your character must have some flaws to be considered for the site- they can't be the best, prettiest, smartest and strongest. Please be realistic.
● We have a minimum word count of 100 words. If you have writer's block or don't have much to write in the current situation, it's understandable, just come back to it later and try again! We also appreciate it if "character speech" is bolded and thoughts in italics - this ensures that it helps everyone more easily notice when characters are speaking / thinking as can be easy to overlook it not.
On the back of this, please remember the activity rule! We'd like to see at least one post every 7 days, though again we are understanding if life gets in the way.
This rule is simply to save other characters getting "thread trapped" by someone slow posting. If you can't keep to this for an OOC reason, that's totally fine, just let us know so we don't worry and we'll lock anything that you need us to lock. 😊
Mods have their own rules on this which have tighter limits for the same reason, so nobody is thread trapped.
● We operate based on liquid time, which means that you can be in multiple threads at the same time as long as you have a timeline in mind as you create them.
Let's say you have a battle with a friend's character at {Area A}. Your thread isn't finished yet, but you want to get to {Area B} because that area has those pretty, pretty Rattatas you always wanted, what in the world will you do? Simple, just write up a new modded thread in {Area B} and hope that a Rattata will show up.
We also have a rule for inactive mod threads. If you let them die and you have finished at least 1 roll/encounter within it, then the thread will be left in the graveyard and you'll have to make a new one. Any bonuses or such are lost.
This is due to people repeatedly "killing" threads off, something we want to discourage.
In addition, users are only allowed one modded thread per character at a time. Remember, a modded thread counts as a wild thread, a gym challenge, a Battle Babes challenge, or a Safari Zone thread.
● Try to keep your grammar and spelling as good as possible. We're not super strict on this, but it's important for posts to at least be legible! If you're unsure about this, use a spellchecker!
● If you have any additional questions, please check the FAQ or take a look around the guides board!
