A world at war is a story trope used so often it might as well be the biggest cliche. Here in our home, however, it really happened- or, at least, so the story goes.
A long time ago, before the islands had names and before pokeballs were even a twinkle in the eyes of even the world's most prolific apricorn pickers, there were Legendary Pokemon.
They made the world, the sea, and the Pokemon. Humans were never part of the plan, but eventually they evolved as well, and so they all coexisted in harmony. Clashes came every now and then, but it was never that bad, and everyone got on for many years.
Until one Legendary Pokemon changed everything.
Falling in love with a human, the Legendary descended to the islands to confess. She fell for him in turn, and eventually with the Legendary's power a little boy was born- half human, half Pokemon. Scandal erupted as the boy was revealed to the world.
The Legendary, full of pride, informed the humans of his son's nature. He would age fast, faster than any human ever would, but one day would be forced to stop to let time catch up with him. He would also share in his father's powers, at least a few, and would use them to help continue to build a better world.
And finally, the Pokemon said he adored his mate, his wife, and when faced with his resolve the humans decided it was not such a terrible thing.
And so, Gijinka came into the world.
After the first, many Legendary Pokemon felt able to bestow their gifts onto the humans, whether out of affection or simple endearment- many more children were born with legendary blessings, both of legendary and more typical heritage.
Families were formed out of the bonds of people and Pokemon, humans raising their children alongside beloved Pokemon allies and coming to see those children as symbols of the harmony that had come to be.
So long as no-one was ever forced into a love that wasn't true, no-one would ever have to worry.
And things were peaceful.
Until one day, one Pokemon went too far.
For nearly her entire life, there was a girl that was watched by Mew. She was born with the brightest blue eyes and the darkest of hair and he loved her from the moment he first saw her.
He watched her from the sky and came to visit her each day under a different disguise, a different face, hoping to woo her and gain her affections before finally confessing his love outright. However, she didn't love him back, and confessed that there was someone else she loved- a human -that she one day wanted to marry.
Of course, this had happened before, and most Legendaries simply wandered off to soothe their heartache in private.
Mew, however, did not.
He was spoiled and stubborn, more than any other of his kind, and he was going to have the girl's affections no matter what- even if he had to trick her. Stealing her true love's identity, the Mew was finally able to receive her affections, and the unsuspecting girl eventually found herself with child.
The baby was born, of course, however a human giving birth to a Gijinka is not an easy feat, and she did not survive the ordeal.
Mew, selfish as he was, didn't care for his daughter- she looked too much like her mother, and that mother was now gone. The baby was no longer what he wanted, a tool of control over her late mother.
And so, he took to the sky again, never to be seen by human or Pokemon. On earth, however, the humans found the newborn Gijinka and a mother who had, in their eyes, lost her own life as a result of the child's birth.
Quickly, dissent rose again. War followed soon after.
Gijinka were hunted down and killed in public. Legendary Pokemon were chased away and forced to leave their longtime families, and families even without Legendary involvement were forced apart for simply harboring Gijinka children.
The world was nearly ripped apart.
...That is, until one being- the little girl born of all this mess -decided that something had to be done. It was not the childrens' fault that one horrible creature had used his status and abilities to abuse those less powerful, and nobody else deserved to suffer.
Together with her allies, she pleaded to the Legendaries, and they created for her a small village. There, they brought all the Gijinka and families of who needed a safe home, and once all gathered the Legendaries wrapped the village in fog and lifted it high up into the sky where they could live safely away from the wars down below.
Either killed or taken to safety by the Legendaries, Gijinka were slowly forgotten. They went from history to legends to myths as the world moved on, until they only persisted through the story you are being told today.
The world moved on.
To this day, nobody really knows if it all happened and if there really is some 'Village of Legends', or if it's just some story told to children to teach them all to get along. The only ones who could possibly know the answer surely would never appear to tell us, and so either way it's best to just learn from the tale and move along.
However...a certain famous (or infamous) criminal team seems to have missed the memo. Obsessed with finding a tool able to only obey, Team Rocket seems to have been hunting down all the information they can find on this old legend.
Why?
Nobody knows.
It's just a fairy tale, surely...

● ● ● ...And The Storybooks' Consequences.
If seeking a vastly simplified summary of site events and current standings (or if you're just short on time), use ctrl+F, cmd+F, or just scroll like the devil to skip to "TO SUMMARIZE:".
So that old legend everyone grew up with but never put much stock in? Well, as it turns out, on some level it was true. Though we don't know all the details or how it works, precisely, not only are gijinka very much a thing but they are a complicated thing.
Just after the beginning of the second year of Shula taking trainers and travelers from outside regions, something happened. As it goes, a large group had gathered in Oasis City for a meeting of some sort, made up of individuals from all over Shula.
There, Team Rocket made a public appearance, revealing to the public not only that they were present and well-established within the region but also that they'd been growing and creating gijinka for years!
They claimed that with their methods and resources that they were the controllers and outright creators of "the perfect Pokemon", responsible for bringing these powerful beings of legend to life for their own purposes.
And all of that might've indeed been true...were it not for some ranger hopping up onstage and claiming it was all Tauros Turds, which she knew because she had 3 gijinka children herself.
All hell broke loose. People started revealing they'd been gijinka all along in solidarity, many being well-known, well-liked, or even high-ranking in powerful positions! Amidst all the reveals, however, there were targeted attacks on gijinka and their sympathizers for months afterward.
Abuse was thrown about, threats became commonplace, and tension in the region was higher than it had been for a very long time.
And it got worse.
About a year after everything came to light, when it seemed like all the stupidity was settling some, there was another attack- and this time, it wasn't something simple.
A group of 3 people and several Pokemon coordinated to attack the Seabreeze Lab, targeting Professor Maple for her research into gijinka and her raising several displaced children with aid from others. Thankfully, with the help of some very brave and resourceful trainers, the lab was saved, and it was revealed then that those who'd attacked the lab were affiliated with their own organized group.
The old legend apparently hadn't just faded into myth- instead, it was kept that way by a very, very old group hidden in the shadowy corners of Shula, "dealing" with gijinka and their supporters for longer than anyone knows.
Going by the name of "Diamond Crystal", the group's members weren't easy to spot and even harder to dig up information on, despite their seeming wealth of knowledge regarding the region itself. But still...
Conflicts with Diamond Crystal continued into the next year as disasters occurred all over Shula. Quickly, authorities, civilians and Team Rocket members alike were either dispatched or set out to help investigate the areas suffering..leaving the Ranger/Police Union and the Team Rocket base both unattended.
Both were raided in the absence of their usual inhabitants by Diamond Crystal members using strange, shadowy Pokemon. Though the attacks on both bases were stopped, destruction and in one case death was left in their wake, and nobody had any more information to show for it.
Though those same shadowy Pokemon appeared around the region later, they disappeared just as quickly, similarly without any meaningful information being gathered.
As the weather in the region subsequently, steadily worsened and the seasons became less reliable, research efforts were turned to that issue instead.
And, for a little while, that was the end of it.
Until suddenly an announcement- a real one, this time, not an illusion -came from Professor Maple regarding irregularities on Isle Changling. As volunteers gathered to investigate they were sorted into exploration teams, nearly every team manned by at least one ranger or police officer for safety before they entered into the newly-opened Crystal-Lined Caverns.
Eventually, each group found itself faced by members of Diamond Crystal, and in chasing them off were allowed to move deeper into the caves- where they found a horrifying sight.
A girl surrounded by a horde of seemingly mindless people, all of them covered in crystal growths.
She had obviously been there for a long while, and upon being confronted- or, rather, upon the group making an attempt to talk her down -she lashed out, attacking the now-unified group with a crystallized beast.
A long battle ended with gijinka from the Village of Legends coming to attempt to comfort the girl, and then subsequently with the poor girl's demise.
Though a full recount of the events in the caves never reached the public, they still shook the region to its core, and the events are still having ripple effects through those affected- and motivating those same individuals to double their investigation efforts.
Upon the gijinka's death, however... The seasons returned to Shula, back to normal.
So that brings us to the present day.
TO SUMMARIZE: Old legends were true to an extent, the lives of people and Pokemon have always been intertwined, and gijinka have always been around.
Team Rocket is present in the region and has figured out how to artificially create gijinka. Despite this, they also seemingly weren't aware of how deep the Raboot hole goes, and only discovered the existence of natural-born gijinka when explicitly revealed to them.
There's a hidden shadow group with a vested interest in completely wiping gijinka from the historical record, to the point of terrorism to try and kill them and their supporters. This group currently goes by the name "Diamond Crystal".
Research and investigations are being done into Diamond Crystal's operations and members, but despite tip lines being open for anyone to call (among other measures) progress is very slow.
In fact, there's a factfile that has been created to compile knowledge on the organization, but...
...It isn't going very well.
