Here in Shula you can start out with almost any Pokemon you want, from good old Bulbasaur to the dependable Durant. This comes with some limits, of course, but with those limits in mind you still have over 700 Pokemon to pick from! So what are these limits?
To start with, your starter Pokemon obviously cannot be a legendary, mythical, or paradox pokemon. It also cannot be any of the Pokemon on the rare pokemon list (of course, except for the customary starters like Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, etc.)
Additionally, all starter Pokemon must be unevolved- if your selected Pokemon has a baby stage, it will start out as that.
Finally, you can't pick a shiny Pokemon as your starter (except in a special case, which will be covered further down).
You don't have to pick just one starter Pokemon, either. In fact, you can choose up to 2 starters to begin with if you'd like! However, there will be some level difference depending on how many you pick.
- One starter - Level 10
- Two starters - Both level 5
All starters come without any TMs, HMs or move tutor moves. You're allowed to add one egg move (EM), however its base power mustn't be higher than 70. Hidden abilities are allowed, however bare in mind not all abilities will work based on site mechanics.
You do have another option for getting your starter Pokemon, though, if you choose. If you'd like, you can go to the lab and ask for them to pick a Pokemon out at random.
There are a few methods of randomizing a starter.
The first is full randomization. If you decide on this, what you'll have to do is indicate that the Pokemon should be fully randomized in the starter portion of your app. Through this method, you will go through your lab thread as normal but the professor or assistant will offer you any one of the customary starter Pokemon. Their ability, gender, and egg moves will be picked out for you, but there is a slim chance there could be a shiny in the mix or even a powerful egg move!
You can also do partial randomization, where you can pick your starter's species or type and have the rest randomized. The way to do this is just as before, except instead of marking every field as random you write in the species you want (restricted to customary starter Pokemon) and write that you'd like to randomize the rest. This can ensure you get the starter Pokemon you want while still giving you a surprise in terms of moveset!
As for lab threads themselves, seeing as you get to pick your Pokemon (unless you did the above), you would think there's no need to go to the lab, right?
Not quite.
Going to the lab allows the professor or her assistant to meet you and give you the starter pack. In character these are the items you will need to get through your trip, and out of character this serves the purpose of letting us see how you write! Please note that Professor Maple and her children live in the lab. This is important to remember and could affect your character's start if you don't take it into account.
Things go exactly the same for anyone wishing to join Team Rocket, you just need to post in Oasis City inside the reception of the Team Rocket lab and someone will come out and collect your character to give them what they need.
If you have any questions, be sure to let one of the mods know! 'Til then, though, have fun writing your app!
