It was time for a second match between Ichen and Indigo. The grass type was brimming with excitement. He wasn’t that far from his evolution. He could feel it. There was still something he lacked, some experience or victory that would be the tipping point. Perhaps a few things. But, all the same, he knew they were coming. So, Indigo’s glaring didn’t make him waver at all. “Say uncle,” Ichen hissed. “Get bent,” Indigo snarled back. A Power-Up Punch. A returning Rolling Kick. “Listen. I don’t like the ****head we’re tied to, but let me make somethin’ real clear for ya,” Ichen said. Rollout against Branch Poke. “I don’t like losing. And, I’m not gonna lose my spot to you of all pokemon.” Bite against Low Kick. Bite, again. The Low Kick is slower… “You’re just a baby! And, you’re not gonna grow up for a while! I read about it, y’know? In Lucas’s pokedex.” Vine Whip! Another! And, another! Indigo is kneeling, now. Ichen stands above the elekid. “I’m his second starter. Maybe I can’t beat Ember when it comes to favorites. But, you? I’m not losing to you.” The chespin laughed. “Try catching up, you little baby.” For now, the rivalry was one-sided. Ichen was simply too strong for Indigo to keep up. Lucas, seated all the while, did nothing to intervene. This was a matter between them since neither were seriously harmed. Why had he fallen behind?! The elekid rampaged around the dojo. A Thunder Shock to the training dummy here… A Branch Poke to the training dummy there… He even threw in a Rolling Kick to the next one for good measure. It was only when the fighting type was about to add in a nasty Low Kick to the wall that Lucas spoke up. “Do not damage this facility,” he chided. “I will never bring you here again if you do so. In fact, I’ll be sorely tempted to keep you away from any battling opportunity. Ever.” Brought to heel with words alone, the little electric type gritted his fangs in frustration. “Make me stronger!” he demanded. “I am arranging battles as often as I can,” he assured. “You will demand nothing of me.” The elekid stomped the ground. His true nature, that of a baby pokemon, became obvious once he began tugging on the prongs atop his head. “I wanna evolve now!! I hate being an elekid! I wanna be big!” “You will not evolve into an electabuzz for some time,” Lucas chided. “But, Ichen’s gonna evolve soon! That’s not fair!” The fallen Rocket admin curled his nose in displeasure. “This is unbecoming of you, Indigo. Focus on gaining experience. You’ll evolve whenever you evolve.” Though he knew Lucas would be of no real comfort, his dismissal stung Indigo all the same. The elekid went back to beating the various training dummies with his electric and grass attacks. TRAINING INDIGO THE SHULIAN ELEKID

Ichen would evolve soon. It was inevitable, but now it felt tangible; it felt as if he only needed to reach a little further and it would be within his grasp. The form itself would be… unimpressive. But, what was a middle evolution for if not merely as a bridge? The grass type threw an arm forward. His Vine Whip flew out, lashing the training dummy. It would make him stronger, and bring him closer to his final stage. The chespin struck out with Power-Up Punch, cracking the wood of his target. Before he reached his full strength, he would have many battles and opportunities to prove his strength. He would eventually have to face Hatti again, to show her that their first match had been a fluke. Then, after that… Victories. He had to win. He had to! He wouldn’t accept defeat. The chespin struck the training dummy with Rollout before going in for a Bite. Lucas watched all of this with quiet intensity. The chespin was strong enough for now and would continue to serve the Rocket agent’s interests… But, that could surely change. It was good that the grass type was motivated at least. It made things easier. TRAINING ICHEN THE CHESPIN

Sunday was surprised to find herself in the dojo. Ichen had been monopolizing the visits as of late. She supposed Lucas indulged that because the chespin was reserved largely for Team Rocket affairs and it was difficult to train him publicly. These private rooms were good for that. All of that awareness didn’t quite answer why he brought her in today instead. Was Ichen in trouble again? Unlikely. Lucas had that distant, unbothered expression about him again. He didn’t seem angry. “Encore.” She used the move. In battle, this would prevent her opponent from using anything except their last move. “Yawn.” As before, she obeyed. This would put an opponent to sleep. “Now, Slack Off.” Oh, that was a treat. She let herself relax. It wasn’t as deep as Rest might be, but it was enough for her to feel better… Not that she’d extended much energy. “Very good.” He was petting her. Sunday was still, allowing the moment to pass. He was so odd. She had seen him be cruel and rough. His indifference she could navigate. Yet, he was always so oddly merciful with her. Was it because she obeyed him? Was she okay with that? Should she be ashamed to so willingly follow the decrees of a Rocket agent? They did horrible things to pokemon. But, if she rebelled against him, could she really take on the rest of the team? Lucas was content with her submission. Today’s training had gone well for both her body and mind. TRAINING SUNDAY THE SLAKOTH

It was Ember’s turn in the dojo again! The little charmander considered her tail flame. She’d lost to Aesop recently. The loss was disappointing but mostly because she’d looked so utterly uncool during it! She hadn’t even gotten to show off her fire-type move! She’d hoped to get her Blaze ability activated. “... He’s got more of his own type moves,” Ember lamented. “I need to get more of those, too.” Lucas looked up from the magazine he was browsing. It detailed real estate around the region that was available for purchase or rent. “You’ll evolve before you get another fire type move.” The charmander pouted. But, that was motivation to get stronger faster. When she evolved, she would be bigger and stronger. She’d even get her first horn! How magnificent that would be! For now, she had to hone her fiery strengths. The charmander looked to the stone targets. A wooden training dummy would be too easy for her, after all. Inhaling a lungful of air turned into exhaling a burst of fire. It crashed against the stone harmlessly but proved her aim true. Her flames were getting hotter and larger each day. Soon enough, she would be a real force to contend with. Then, Aesop would see how cool she was the next time they battled! TRAINING EMBER THE CHARMANDER

This was one of the larger dojo rooms. Turquoise enjoyed the pool. It was heated. That was a nice change of pace. The lapras sighed contentedly. “You’ve gotta get more pokemon, Tom,” the lapras insisted. “I get that you’ve got this lizard-y thing going on, but, y’know, there’s other options.” Lizard-y? Lucas raised a brow. A draconic lapras, a charmander, and a Shulian ekans were all that Turquoise had seen of Lucas’s team. He supposed that did seem pretty reptilian in inclination. Perhaps he should frame his civilian persona in that manner? It would seem just mundane enough of a preoccupation. Tom the scale-fancier. Yeah. Sure. “I want to make sure I have enough time for all of you,” the Rocket lied. “I can take Ember lots of places, but you and Sumac need plenty of space. It’s not fair to keep you cooped up in your pokeballs all the time.” The lapras shot a Water Gun in glee. “Aw, Tom! No worries, bud! We’re gonna get this training career off the ground and then you can go to part time! We’ll figure it out, no worries!” “Thank you.” How easy this pokemon was to coerce, Lucas realized. “Would you mind showing me your Freeze-Dry? It’s useful against water types and we could use the coverage.” “No problem, buddy!” The lapras did as instructed. The water hissed, evaporating just as quickly as it had been frozen. She had to get stronger. She had people to impress. Well, she didn’t have that many to impress. She had way more people in mind that she wanted to remind of who was superior. So, a little of column A and a little of column B went together to make her motivation for the day. On top of just leveling up, what she needed was to expand her move pool. Normal, fire, and dark were okay enough, but there was a lot she couldn’t counter. Pity she knew Lucas was hoarding all of his tokens at the moment in anticipation of getting a new home. Sure, that would also help everyone get stronger, but what about her and her needs? A new move or getting her own room finally… Space for stuffed toys and a nice, plush bed or a cool new move…? Well, couldn’t she get both if the team got stronger? Lucas would be able to do more and take the spoils back. Yes! Bingo! Ember giggled, preparing to call upon the might of the team once more. With Beat Up, she’d have to get Lucas to start thinking about which of the team was more physically powerful. She would have to call upon them to lend her strength and she didn’t want the weakest of the bunch doing that! The charmander struck the training dummy half a dozen times and raised her chin proudly after. Oh yeah. She was getting somewhere. TRAINING EMBER THE CHARMANDER

It was time to get back to the basics. The fundamentals were what all advanced techniques were built on. So, Lucas would have Ember go through her first moves. These were simple, standard things that every charmander learned. To be an exceptional example of one’s type, one had to perform the basic aspects well. Thus, the first move: Scratch. Ember’s arm hooked around. The action was not a simple thrust out; that would have been an attempt at something like piercing. A Scratch was a raking action; the arc of her orange arm was the point. It was of equal importance that her claws were flexed just so. Without any curl, they might have just fluttered by in some shallow wound. Their ideal angle would let them hook into the opponent and drag down agonizingly. These little details mattered dearly. Next was Growl. Unlike in a more mammalian pokemon, Ember’s growl did not originate from the heights of her body such as her throat or her jaw. It was a deep, belly-born sound. Her whole body resonated with the Growl; truly, it was more of a bellow, but functioned all the same as both luring call to disarm an opponent and a territorial claim to dishearten would-be attackers. It spoke to some crocodilian influence; some primordial, ancient reptilian impulse. Lucas found the performance of both moves satisfying. He knew by sound that the Growl would be effective against an opponent. It did remind him of his desire for an effective and useful water type. While the lapras he’d come across was useful for his civilian persona, it did not have all of the potential he desired in a battler. There were better options out there. And, the Scratch was very good, too. He could see the marks on the training dummy that this was true. TRAINING EMBER THE CHARMANDER

Important Info
Season
Good news, Autumn is here! The sticky heat of the summer is finally gone, but the bad news? Its gotten very cold very fast. Berrys have fallen early from their perches, fruit and food is getting caught in snap frosts and icy mornings and this is leading to very cold mornings, pokemon getting desprate quickly and dark and chilly evenings
Next season change ~ May 20th
Swarming Pokemon!
Encouraged Characters
Currently, our character numbers are pretty even, so aside from us gently encouraging more civilians and breeders...go nuts!
Numbers of Gijinka on site have dropped, too, so they're open to be applied for at the moment- though, if you're interested, go check out the adoptable threads for many wanted ones! They could always use players! ;-)
