APPEARANCE
Maven is a sixteen-year-old boy whose body is long and lanky, undercut by the thin athleticism of a life spent keeping up with whatever random sport his wealthy friends considered to be 'in' at any given time. With wavy black hair that falls to just above his jaw on the sides, which he tends to sweep back behind his ears and skin only barely darker than milky white, it's obvious that he has not spent vast amounts of time outside.
He has green eyes and a rounded, but defined jawline. He has a scar, beginning at the base of his neck where it meets his chest and curving down to his stomach, that he does his best to keep hidden at all times. Maven stands at around six feet and one inch, and tends to adorn himself with dark long sleeved shirts that have high necklines accompanied by comfortable joggers and sneakers. Finally, he wears a family ring that his father passed on to him the day he set out for the Shula Region, with S engraved on it over a musical note.

HISTORY
Born and raised in Castelia City in the Unova Region, Maven Strauth grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and with a love for music. Although not extremely wealthy, Maven's parents were often involved in high society within Castelia due to his father's work as a composer. With three siblings - two brothers, Graham and Lyric, as well as the youngest, his sister Viola - there was never a dull moment around their home.
All four attended a private school from Kingdergarten on, with their friends often being the children of the wealthy families of Unova's largest city that their father, Elijah, and his trusty Kricketune 'Crooner' often interacted with. None of the siblings particularly cared to go on a Pokemon journey after the oldest, Graham, tried it and ended up coming home after just his first badge, claiming 'it wasn't for him' - though, his new partner Scraps the Purrloin was a welcome addition to the family.
After Graham's experience, the other siblings simply decided not to go on their own journeys. Maven thought about it for a long time, but decided he had no reason to leave the comfort of his own home. Some of their friends went out, but usually just for the prestige earning a badge or two could bring to their families. Why else would the wealthiest Unovan families send their children out into the wilderness?
So the years passed in peace, as Maven enjoyed simple school life and ordinary squabbles of family. One particularly busy Summer, with Maven at the age of fourteen and their father away on a long tour, the four siblings went out with their mother to Central Plaza to enjoy a day outdoors.
His elder brothers had the idea to play a prank on eleven year-old Viola, taking her into the wooded portion of the park and then ditching her there while Loraine was distracted waiting to order food for them all. Maven, finding out about it when they returned, hurriedly ran to find her as he often found himself playing the protector in their sibling dynamic, except... when he found her, she was on the verge of being dragged into a nearby alleyway by a wild Banette.
What happened next remains to this day a blur, but Maven leapt into action, tearing his sister away from the Ghost-Type Pokemon and yelling at her to run before he was grabbed and pulled away instead, unable to free himself. He did not know how much time passed exactly as he experienced it, but what he did have were flashes of terror and pain that finally ended when authorities found him in the Castelia Sewers with a massive scar across his front... only to find that he had been missing for a week.
His recovery was a long, arduous affair, leaving him with a lasting phobia of Ghost-Type Pokemon and trauma he would carry for the rest of his life. His father came home the moment he heard, of course, and while the family tried their best to simply move forward once Maven was recovered physically, they knew that things could not continue as they were.
For a year and a half, they tried everything from suffocating amounts of family time, to endless therapy and even allowing Maven to travel some with his father while missing school, the only thing that seemed to have any impact on his moods at all. After months and months of debating what the right thing to do was, his parents finally decided that he needed to go out and see the world for himself on a true Pokemon journey, something he and his siblings had never seen a need for previous to the incident.
When his most recent and longest lasting therapist found out about the idea as well, she vehemently supported it, stating the myriad mental health benefits that a journey could have on someone. He finally agreed to go, but with a condition: that he leave Unova and have his journey in another Region, where he could truly take a step away from his past and try to forge a new future for himself.
So they paid for Maven's trip to Shula, a Region he had never heard of but that in his and his family's research, they had found and decided on for his destination. The day he left, his father Elijah gave him the family ring that had once been intended for Graham as the eldest, but after discussion among the family was now being given to him. He would not let his trauma rule him forever. He would experience the Shula Region, discover the wonders of Pokemon for himself, and hopefully one day prove to himself and his family that he was, truly, alright.
