Haunter Amrock couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious at the Mankey's response to his inquiries. Sure, there was no guarantee that a place like the cliffs would be all too exciting, but it didn't hurt to hope, did it? It wasn't like he and Niko would be privy to all the potentially exciting stuff hidden under the surface of the place. She really didn't need to be so blunt, did she? Well, regardless of whether or not the Mankey's attitude towards Amrock's own personal expectations were justified, it wasn't like they had to focus on the matter. Amrock had just been given the green light to try his hand at some cliffside training. That seemed like a good thing to get started on sooner than later. With a simple nod from Niko, Amrock decided to get started. First off, Amrock was going to do the practical thing and use the best moves at his disposal. He twirled around, throwing some feathers the Mankey's way, only to follow it up with a quick burst of flame. If the Mankey could avoid both, he'd be in trouble, but otherwise, he had a pretty good feeling about the battle ahead. Amrock used Feather Dance and Ember (40+13STAB=53BP, burns on 10 or less)!

Blunt though the Mankey may have indeed been during her interaction with the Torchic in truth it were just how the fighting type was and if it bothered others then so be it, but she were not going to apologise for such things - not when sometimes behaving in such a manner were the best way to be, granted there were a faint part of the Mankey that would feel bad about dismissing the other pokemon's desires to find anything interesting out here in an otherwise bland surroundings. But whatever, all this did not matter in any way more so given there were other things in which would need to be focused upon and in many ways there were more interesting things to do also the battle that had been agreed upon being one such thing. As such this would be the very reason for the literal fighting monkey would shake herself into focusing upon what were to come next and taking the opportunity to stand up and stretch her limbs in order to get life back into such before the battle would begin to commence after the fighting type had made her prior comment regarding 'encouraging' the fire type to begin. Eyes would narrow at the 'feathers' that were thrown her way, waiting just long enough for these strange things to get close before doing what could only be described as a twirling side step to avoid this but this were not quite enough to evade the small fiery burst that would be directed her way. A grunt of pain would escape the Mankey as pain coursed through her body before attempting to shake such a feeling off, it would be from here that the fighting type would cast a leered looked towards the fire type before moving into action and charging towards the small Torchic in an attempt to 'throw' the fire chick. Haunter The Mankey may have been somewhat stronger than Amrock, but that wouldn't do much to lessen his sense of confidence going into the battle. Right out of the gate, he was doing pretty well, managing to get a decent hit in on the pig-nosed fighter and consequently gaining the advantage. Not bad at all, and definitely a good reason for Amrock to be optimistic about the battle going forward. His opponent shot back with a mean glare, but Amrock himself wasn't too intimidated. Sure, the Mankey might've been tough, but not that tough, right? Well, immediately following this, the Mankey managed to close the distance and grab ahold of Amrock before he could dodge out of the way. Moments later, he found himself airborne and, shortly after that, he impacted hard against the ground. That definitely hurt, but at least it didn't hurt too much. Amrock got himself reoriented, and considered how to retaliate. He had to assume that the Mankey would be more ready for the next Ember that went her way, so he'd need to be a bit more strategic. Perhaps he could kick up some dirt before his next attack? Sure, that sounded like a good idea. After all, it'd be a lot harder for her to dodge his attack if she had gunk in her eyes. Leer missed, but Seismic Toss hit!

Well, it seemed as if both of the battling pokemon had managed to get in a good hit against the other so this were indeed a good start to the battle as far as such things went right? this were the only thought that would pass through the Mankey's mind as she released his grasp upon the Torchic before putting some distance between herself and the small fire chick - after all it were better to have a good line of sight to prepare for any upcoming attacks right? Though maybe not in this case completely, for when the small fire chick would kick up some sand would it linger in the air enough to cause some difficulty to spot the Torchic and by default the upcoming attack of which would strike the Mankey resulting in a further pained grunt as the fighter took a step back in an attempt to regain some composure before focusing back on the battle. Here would the mankey Leer angrily towards the Torchic once more before jumping forward before starting to attempt to lash out at the fire chic in as aggressive a manner as were possible. Haunter Yet another successful hit! Now that was what Niko liked to see. Amrock's Ember was most certainly his best attack in terms of sheer damage, and after just two hits, it looked like just one more would be enough to take down the wild Mankey. All that they needed to do was see whether or not Amrock could hold out long enough to get that extra hit in. Well, after getting hit twice in a row, the wild Mankey must've been angry. She gave him a rather fierce look, which Amrock couldn't deny made him a bit nervous. He'd have to keep his distance. Thus, when she followed it up with some furious swiping, Amrock jumped backwards to keep out of her range, leaving behind a trail of feathers for her to get caught up in. Hopefully, she'd be caught in those feathers long enough for his next Ember to be the decisive blow he needed. Leer hit, but Fury Swipes missed! NOw to say that the mankey were a little frustrated at the fact that the Torchic had managed to dodge another one of her attacks, though despite the frustration that the fighting type felt and despite it being usual for those of her specie to go into a rage in these sorts of situation in this particular case the wild pokemon would make great efforts to keep herself calm and focused on what were going on around her. The feathers that would come to surround the fighting type for a short time would be more than enough to fully focus the Mnnkey before eyes were narrowed and focused upon the Torchic across from her as she had a feeling as to what move would be used next. As such the Mankey would wait just long enough for the fiery pokemon to launch it's atack at where the Mankey had been positioned originally before darting to one side at the last minute to avoind the fiery blast with a smirk on her features. It would be here that the mankey would seem to take a deep breath in order to focus herself and keep her gaze fixed upon the Torchic as she would charge towards the other while swinging a clenched fist around towards the fire chick. Haunter Amrock felt as though he'd done well enough up to that point in terms of his counterattacking. His latest attempt may have only been half successful, but he'd still gotten a minor victory by getting his opponent covered in his feathers. He imagined that must've been pretty frustrating to deal with, and with his Ember dodged, he started to wonder if the Mankey would show off her kin's trademark anger. That turned out not to be the case, though. Instead, she seemed oddly...focused. And not in a good way. As she came at him again, fist clenched, Amrock got the feeling that if he didn't dodge, he'd be in big trouble. Who knew just how powerful this wild Mankey could really be? She could, for example, know...Brick Break? Sure, that seemed plausible. He attempted to duck just underneath the punch, and, surprisingly, he was successful, if only barely. Still, the punch's windshear was still felt, and it definitely didn't seem like what one would get with a soft punch. Amrock had dodged a bullet, almost literally, without even realizing just how dangerous it really was. He knew he needed to act quick. He took the opportunity to kick some sand in the Mankey's eyes while they were right in front of each other, and then began stepping back, firing off another Ember as she went. Focus Punch missed!

Alright now this were more than a little frustrating for the Mankey when the small Torchic would come to dodge the attack that the fighting type would have been hoping to direct upon the other, this would be more than enough to get an angry growl escaping the Mankey as she managed to skid to a halt thankfully soon enough even if brought her close to the other and got some sand thrown in her face before getting burnt by the small flames that would be spat her way. This in itself would be more than enough toget the Mankey staggering back so that there would be a good distance between the pair of battling pokemon once more, this would give the Mankey enough time to clear the sand from her eyes before casting a annoyed look towards the Torchic before charging towards the fire chick and attempt to beging scratching her claws at the Torchic. Amazingly, it looked like Amrock was not only still in the fight, but legitimately holding his own. Him getting another good hit in meant that he was one step closer to getting out of the fight on top. Not a bad state of affairs, considering the moves the Mankey had thrown out up to that point. Problem was, that Mankey was only going to become more frustrated, and Amrock didn't know if he'd be able to avoid her attacks a third time. This turned out to be fairly accurate. The look she gave him made him more than a little concerned, and though he tried his best to roll out of the way, the Mankey was able to see through his attempt and catch him mid-roll, scratching him all over with her formidable digits. Amrock picked himself up as best he could. The two of them were about on equal standing from the outset, so he'd have to put as much of himself as he could if he were to stand a decent chance of winning. Based on his input, Niko seemed to agree. " It's now or never! Try attacking from a different angle to finish her off!" Amrock knew what he had to do. In a daring move, he rushed towards her, as if he were going for a head-on melee attack. However, just a few feet away, he did something different. He leapt forward, his previous position filled with only a cluster of feathers, and as he went over his opponent's head, he fired down from above, aiming at her upper back. If he aimed just right, he had a feeling he could finish the fight. Otherwise, Arceus only knew what'd happen next. Leer and Fury Swipes hit!
Amrock made a momentary distraction with Feather Dance!

Despite the frustration that the Mankey had been and in some manner would likely continue to feel about the current situation, the very fact that her most recent attack had finally had some success and the dammed little Torchic were not successfully dodging so much now would nedlesss to say be more than enough to get a satisfied feeling filling the fighting type. More so when the Torchic would go tumbling backwards upon her having struck him as she would also take the time to make efforts to retreat a short distance to avoid being within the immediate vicinity of the fire type, not that this would matter given the ranged attacks that the fire type used she would just have to be somewhat careful and keep an eye on the other. Needless to say this would prove useful when the smaller Torchic would begin his charge towards her once more, this in itself were more than enough to get the Mankey preparing herself to attempt to evade the incoming attack of the smaller male - not that this would seem to go her way at all. For just as the Mankey seemed to be about to charge towards the small Torchic would surprise and alarm form upon her features at being met with a literal massof feathers and nofire type. The Mankey would begin making near frantic efforts to locate the other pokemon but rather would be struck in the back by the small flames that were directed upon her, this though small were more than enough to cause the intended damge to the fighting type. As such this would be more than enough to causethe fighting type to finally collapse in defeat without any hints of movement making it evident that the small Torchic were the winner. Haunter It was a gamble, but since he'd already defied the odds before, Amrock figured there wasn't much harm in putting his all into one final attack. That sort of "all or nothing" gambit usually worked out well for heroic types like him and Niko, right? As it turned out...it did. Amrock's curveball worked perfectly, with his momentary distraction giving him just enough time to deliver the finishing blow. Awesome! Once the chick landed - not the most graceful landing, but enough to avoid simply flopping on the ground - he immediately looked back and saw what had happened to his opponent. It looked like she was okay...but she was clearly out of action. " Yes!" Amrock cheered. " I did it!" Niko stepped forward, looking towards the fallen Mankey and giving the wild Pokemon a respectful nod. " You sure did it, Amrock. I'll admit I didn't think you would for a little while back there. That Mankey seemed pretty tough. Had a fairly decent moveset, too." " Oh, yeah, totally," Amrock agreed. " Not a lot of Fighting moves, but she sure could swipe at me! I bet once I become part-Fighting, I'll be able to throw out stuff like that, too!" Niko nodded again, gesturing for Amrock to follow him as he began to leave. The Mankey had done them a real service, but now that all was said and done, it looked like he didn't have much more to do in that location. With any luck, they'd be able to go somewhere else and find something a bit more interesting than a simple wild Pokemon.

And now that the battle between the small Torchic and his Mankey oppoannt were done and over with, for the most part would a - hopefully - satisfying calm and relaxation would come over the area now that one more training session were behind him for the day before the human and Torchic pair would opt for continuing on their way along their particular chosen path.
Though for a while it would seem as if there wouldn't be much - whether human or pokemon - that would come to cross their part for a while, well it were not as if there were being literally lining up within short distances of each other in order to waylay the travellers that passed by here. But then again just because there were nothing thus far that would be making themselves known did not mean it would last this way forever for if any attention were paid there would be evidence of some form of life through the variety of strange plat life that seemed to begin to form strangely.

Haunter Traipsing away from the cliffside, Niko and Amrock kept an eye out for anyone or anything amiss that could've been in the surrounding area. Niko didn't really enjoy the idea of just meandering around the cliffside, especially when doing so hadn't really done them that many favors. Perhaps they'd return to that portion of the Deadfall Cliffs at a later time, but it wasn't a big priority. This new course meant, after a short while, they were starting to edge along the border of what would be considered the Cliffs and what would be considered the Grasslands. Niko wouldn't be crossing that border just yet, but he wasn't going to be afraid to skirt along it if it meant more opportunities to enjoy all that the locale had to offer. And, after that Mankey encounter, the first thing that ended up catching his attention was something rather unexpected. Amrock was starting to have trouble traversing on his own two feet. Niko noticed this quickly, and though he wasn't sure why at first, he realized that with the Torchic's small size, the change in the grass was much more impactful. The grass's height was starting to reach his neck, and each blade looked a bit...curvier? Wavier? It was hard to put into words, but they definitely looked bent out of shape. Did something physically cause this, or was something else at play? Niko scooped up Amrock and held him in his arms as he waded through with ease, curious as to the odd change beneath his feet.

And of course the assumptions that Niko were coming to make regarding having come to the borderlands - so to speak - between the cliffs and the grasslands would indeed be true, for this area would indeed be one of many where the two area's overlapped somewhat. It were not to be a bad thing however for it would certainly mean there would be the opportunity for a potential broader variety of pokemon here that could handle the mild diversity of terrrain in this particular spot.
Now when the Torchic and human pair would begin moving through the surprisingly ong grass and plant life that they had come across, what the human would thus far likely not realise just yet were just how right he may have been in regards to there having indeed been something that had caused this particular growth. For the one who had caused such were very capable of hiding amongst the grass and vines due to it's natural camoflauge and typing as a whole.
THis would be all that were needed for a thus far unseen being to be able to keep pace with the human after having taken note of NIko's arrival here, though it would not remain unseen for much longer - well, then again that depended upon a lot of things really. bUt anyway, once the human male had picked up the small Torchic and begun to move on again would some of the vines and grass seem to begin to move with purpose and try to snag the human and make progress difficult while a chuckle of amusement would faintly be heard a short distance away if such were paid attention to.

Haunter " Something's weird about this spot," Amrock commented, gazing down at the ground below him. Niko felt much the same way, with what he was seeing not striking him as particularly ordinary. Perhaps he was simply uneducated when it came to plantlife in general, but he had a feeling that even if he was, he would still find the grass beneath his feet odd. He tried looking around to see if anything external could explain what he was seeing, but he wasn't able to search for long. Niko stopped briefly as he looked down at his feet again, having definitely felt something. Beneath his feet, he noticed the grass begin to move of its own accord. Alarmed, he attempted to step away, only to meet a surprising resistance. As he craned his neck, he was able to see behind him...Vines? " What the...?" Where the hell did those come from? He wasn't sure, but he wasn't going to just stand idly by while they attempted to ensnare him. He strained himself to break free, the vines and grass blades tearing away, though in doing so, he overestimated the strength of the hold and stumbled for a few seconds. As he recovered, he was able to catch a soft chuckling of sorts, which got his attention straightaway. He turned to look and see what had just tried to grab at him. " I know you're there! It's not funny!"
