APPEARANCE
Niko is 5’10” in height and has a fairly average build, though he tends to keep himself in shape for the sake of his work. His skin is light, his eyes are a dark green, and his hair is dark and stops at around the top of his forehead. His regular outfit is a grayish blue, along with some leather shoes and a black leather belt, and he displays his police badge proudly, it being the symbol of his authority. He will occasionally wear more typical civilian attire if he’s off duty or simply needs to keep a low profile, though he’ll always keep his badge on his person just in case he needs to pull it out.
HISTORY
Niko was born into a somewhat poor family - a young couple, Martha and Jonas - within a not-so-nice section of the ever-growing Goldenrod City in Johto. Despite what that may imply, his upbringing was serviceable, for the most part. He did well in school, and he did his best to make friends where he could (although he lost contact with a majority of them after his schooling days). Unfortunately, growing up in a rather uninviting neighborhood meant a certain level of concern for not only himself, but his own friends and family. This would, over the years, instill a great sense of desire to ensure the innocent remain safe and the guilty be brought to justice. This would ultimately lead to Niko staying close to home (that, and he wanted to make sure he was there for his parents) and, in the process, pursuing what one would consider to be a fairly appropriate career path.
Niko would begin work about as soon as he could, and after a few years of him and his parents saving up money, he was finally able to pursue a career in law enforcement, where he would excel in his studies and eventually receive the honor of being both a police officer and a prosecuting attorney. During his training, he also had the fortune of meeting an individual by the name of Lex Griffin, whom Niko recognized. As it turns out, Lex was actually an old friend of Niko's, being a kid he'd met in the fourth grade, Lex being a year ahead of him. Niko had lost contact with him halfway through middle school after Lex's family moved, but apparently, in the interim, Lex's life had turned around, and he'd managed to secure a comfortable position within the international police force.
This was perfect, Niko thought. With Lex's help, he could pursue his true calling by seeking and rooting out injustice across the globe, a task which would prove to be much harder than he had envisioned. Soon enough, once he had about a year's worth of experience under his belt, he was granted the honor of working overseas, Lex helping him along the way. He spent the next four years traveling to different regions, including Hoenn, Unova, Galar, and even the faraway Orre region. This meant learning countless local customs and laws wherever he worked, which was tricky at times, but he felt it was worth it so long as he could pursue the various opportunities afforded to him.
At first, his cases were simple, mainly focusing on tracking down criminals who'd been stealing and trafficking other people's Pokemon. Once he started getting more involved, though, it proved to be far more demanding than he'd expected, and as time went on, his workload only increased. He thought he could handle it at first, but after a while, all this began to wear down even the hardworking Niko, who began losing a lot of the initial fire he once had for his work.
This was eventually noticed by his superiors, who decided to offer him a more relaxed position, helping keep the peace in the Shula region. The region was nice enough, it seemed, and on the other hand, it had plenty of work opportunities, since it was no stranger to criminal organizations. He was promised he could stay there long term, and he would even be issued a pair of new Pokemon (something which was supposedly standard protocol). Though Niko didn't like this at first, he reasoned that he was, perhaps, a bit too headstrong in his initial career, and that perhaps being in Shula could help him in the long term. Thus, with some hesitation, he took the offer.
