Mickey had barely waited for the ferry to dock before bolting down the street of Seabreeze village, shouting an apology over his shoulder at the sailor he'd nearly bowled over. Seemingly defying physics itself with his sheer excitement, he somehow didn't trip as he finagled his scooter out of his backpack, unfolding it and jumping on, just to give himself a little extra speed as he made his way to the Pokemon lab. It had been a lovely gesture to surprise him with the fact that he was going to be allowed to go on a journey - in a brand new region, no less! - but maybe not the best example of foresight on the part of his aunt, given that it'd meant he'd been bouncing off the walls the entire trip here from Johto. All that energy had to go somewhere, and unfortunately for whatever poor soul was currently manning the desk at the pokemon lab, said energy was currently headed right for them.
The kid barely had the presence of mind to stop his scooter, coming dangerously close to barrelling through the glass automatic doors as he came to a screeching halt right in front of them. He didn't wait to be invited in, quickly rushing inside of the Pokemon lab, shoving his scooter back into his bag as he went. "HelloI'mMickeyFairbourneI'mhereformypokemon!" He said, all one sentence before some resemblance of good sense came back to him and he blushed.
'Way to make a great first impression, Mick. Really proving Mom and Dad right, huh?'
Trying to salvage the situation, the boy stood up straight and caught his breath, forcing himself to speak at a normal pace. "Hi, I'm Michael Fairbourne. My grandma made an appointment for me to come and get my first Pokemon and get registered as a trainer." He said, doing an admirable job of not spilling the words out of his mouth all at once. Still, the boy was practically vibrating, as if pure happiness was threatening to burst out of him at any moment.

Oakley
| Oakley pushed himself forwards a little and fingers grasped at the air, though made contact with nothing. The chair under him wobbled as he leaned forwards and there was a soft creak from it, making JJ wince as he stood beside the metal desk in the middle of the room. "Almost got....it" the green haired boy muttered out, on the edge of making another comment as JJ spoke.
"You know you dont have to prove me right, or, equally, hurt yourself being stubborn" the wartortle commented, Blaze chuckling from the desk as he pulled a bag of items up the drawers on the side of it and let the bag fall open on the desk itself. "Yea, he does. He's his mama's boy" the fire type giggled out, Oakley turning to snap at the pair just as his fingers wrapped around the berry pots he had been reaching for.
Grinning, he turned to the pokemon with a comment on how his most recent guest wasn't even due yet, and the knock hadn't come, and then all hell broke loose. The door threw itself open, the boy on the chair wobbled back too far, the chair leg snapped, the cyndaquil let out a scared puff of smoke which began to fill the room and in all the madness, a grunt of pain and splash of water could clearly be heard. |

Mickey winced when he heard the crash, and cringed when he heard the cyndaquil cry out and smoke started filling the room. The splash of liquid was just the icing on the catastrophic cake. Leave it to him to cause a workplace injury within two minutes of being somewhere. He hurried to the other boy's side, waving smoke away with his hand as best he could. "I'm so sorry!" He exclaimed, not sure what else he could say. He offered a hand to help Oakley stand, mentally noting the boy's resemblance to a ralts. Was he a Gijinka? They weren't exactly common in Johto, he'd actually never met one before, but his grandma had told him there were a lot of them in Shula. He didn't have any strong feelings about them either way, except that they were cool, so he went back to the matter at hand.
"I should have knocked, I just got too excited." He said, continuing his apology. He hoped that he wouldn't get thrown out. How would he explain not being able to pick up his pokemon? Worse, how would he even get to Glacierpeak town, since the whole plan had been for him to journey there alongside the pokemon he got here. He tried to force down those negative thoughts as he awaited Oakley's response to the whole mess.

Oakley
| It took a lot of hand waving and a good few moments for the smoke to begin to clear, this revealing that the green haired boy who had fallen had moved almost as soon as he had done so and crawled over to the desk while JJ stood in his spot and was in the process of gathering up the wood he could feel when the other trainer to be spoke.
The water type turned to him, the room finally beginning to empty of smoke now as it became clear Oakley had pulled himself up to the desk side and was comforting the cyndaquil there, blaze now mewling quietly as JJ raised a hand and didnt bother to speak, the odds were this one wouldnt understand him anyway, and just pointed to the wooden chair across from the desk itself.
Oakley on his part winced as he stood up straight, leaning over the desk to stick his hand in the bag there and clearly throw something back in to the drawers before he gripped the desk edge and slowly moved himself around the side of it to settle on the black computer chair there. "These things....happen" he muttered out, eyes rolling as he groaned a small comment about obvious signs and family homes under his breath. "Mr Fairbourne right? Need items and one pokemon listened, no preferred region or type?" the boy asked, quietly cursing all those who did this signing up for random and coming in qith q reuqest thing but who knew, maybe this one would be different. |

Thankfully it seemed there were no hard feelings, though that might have simply been because Mickey didn't see the eye roll. Regardless, the young lab assistant seemed intent on just moving past his little mishap, and the trainer-to-be was more than happy to do the same. Better to get everything back on track and get out of this guy's hair as soon as humanly possible. He plopped himself into the indicated seat, giving an apologetic smile to the two pokemon as he did so. He felt especially bad for the poor cyndaquil, who looked like he might have been hurt in the whole mess.
"Yes, that's right. Totally random." He said, proving that he was, in fact, not one of the dreaded requesters. His grandmother was the one who signed him up so she'd decided that for him, but in truth given the choice he would have still gone with that option. It meant he'd likely choose from pokemon he'd never seen before, which was exactly what he wanted. Even though Goldenrod had a lot of foot traffic, he'd only ever seen most pokemon from outside of Johto and Kanto in books - mainly his grandmother's artbooks. If he wanted to follow in her footsteps, meeting pokemon from all over was part of that. That said, a stray thought did make him reconsider, "Well... if you have any who have been here a while without getting picked, I'd love to see about taking one of them with me. But no requests as far as type, species, or region or anything."

Oakley
| Oakley raised an eyebrow at the comment from the boy who seemed close to him in age, looking over the other childs form before he nodded his head and turned to the computer beside him. Well, that worked. "In that case, these are your items. If you dont know what any are, or what any do, feel free to ask" he explained as he leaned over the desk, nudging Blaze who took a moment to take in a deep breath. In the next second, he turned around and held up the hem of the bag he had been dragging about before, trying to offer it to the other trainer to be as oakley started to get up. He pushed off his mothers black computer chair, getting up slowly all the same and wandering over to the back of the lab in a few paces. As he got to the large oak door at the back of the room, it took a couple of tries for the green haired boy to open it before it swung open and he leaned on it to keep it open for his guest to pass through. Outside lay 3 pens, one covered in plants and large leaves while one had sand along the floor with a collection of fire type pokemon dashing about inside. The third was a large pond with a smaller heated pool beside it, a few lilies scattered over the surface and a little sandy beach type area that was clearly home to the water type starters. As he stood there, the lab assistant waited to see his guests next actions, his eyes focused intently on the fire type pen. x 5 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 |

Mickey had blurted it out more or less on impulse, but the thought that had led to it was that he, himself, had been waiting a long time for his journey. He had to assume that some of the pokemon here had also been left waiting, for whatever reason, and he felt a sense of kinship. Granted, he was sure whatever had kept them from being chosen was entirely outside their control, whereas his had been the result of his own bad decisions. Still, if he could give one of these pokemon the same start he was getting, it just felt right to ask.
He gathered up the items offered to him, thanking the other boy as he sorted them into his bag, or put them on in the case of the poketch. "Thank you so much." He said, before rising to follow the other boy to the back door. He considered helping to push it open, but decided that might be a bit rude, and regardless he did manage to get it open. He wondered how a boy around his own age had become a lab assistant, though stranger things had happened.
Once they were outside, any thoughts not directly related to the three pens full of pokemon vanished from his mind as his eyes scanned across the field. A huge grin came over his face as he hurried forward, going to the fire type pen first by sheer chance. Without a moments hesitation he whipped out his sketchbook, scribbling away as he tried to capture the scene of the pokemon all playing... which was difficult, with them moving around. If Oakley happened to glance over his shoulder, he'd find that the boy was actually pretty good, clearly well-practiced in sketching pokemon in action. However, Mickey seemed to catch himself and closed the book, blushing again. "Oh... sorry, sometimes when I see something like this I just kind of start drawing without thinking."

Oakley
| Oakley had an idea in his mind as he wandered over to the pens, making sure his guest was outside before he paused beside the fire one and watched the other child sketch. He was good, he reminded him so much of his mother in that moment where she would pause and start to doodle thigns she saw when she was out on some research misson or the like. But she was away, she was working, and so he had to get the job done. Wandering over to the grass type pen, taking a deep breath, and then leaning down, oakley sighed. A few of the pokemon rushed to meet him,a few fled from his grasp and one even tried to bite on to his fingers as he tried to pick up one of the grass types in the pen. It was this pokemon the boy gripped on to, turning to the other trainer and holding him out. "Maton has had a trainer before, he wasn't a bad kid but he was a kid who always seemed to lose focus a lot and its, well..." the boy started before he sighed, pulling his hand free from tiny angry claws. "Maton always knew his worth, he was going to be strong and if he needed to fight the world to do it then that was it. But now he's sort of bitter, has a point to prove since he came back here and sort of takes out every bad mood and bad thought on everyone around him" the green haired boy explained, lowering his tone as he went on. "I think it hurt more then he lets on, so he lashes out to avoid having to deal with freinds and then pain or rejection again, but im guessing" he thought out loud, adding on his latter comment as a stick began to batter his fingers. Mickey watched as Oakley walked over to the grass pen, following and watching as the pokemon all ran to meet him. Some a bit more enthusiastically than ithers, it seemed. He grimaced slightly as one seemed to bite Oakley, and perhaps predictably, it was this problem child he was soon presented with. This was among the pokemon Mickey had only seen pictures of. A Grookey, a grass type from the Galar region. An ornery one at that, if the scowl on his face and his aggressive scratching of Oakly's hands was any indication. He was beginningto regret his previous statement, until Oakley explained Maton's history, and the boy felt his heart break a little bit.
“That's awful…” He muttered, feeling a spike of anger at Maton's previous trainer. There was no good excuse for abandoning a pokemon, and he didn’t need Oakley to confirm that it'd affected the poor pokemon. The anger and hurt he could see in the grass type made it crystal clear.
He leaned in a bit, giving the friendliest smile he could. “Don’t worry Maton, I'm not a quitter. I'm sure we'll be really good fr- ouch!” He was cut off when his head was smacked with the Grookll's branch, rubbing the resulting lump as he stood up straight again. Still, the smile hadn't gone from his face. “We'll just work on the friends thing.” He said with a sheepish laugh.

Oakley
| Oakley smirked a little as the other trainer spoke at first before he went on to speak to the grass type, oakley after a moment leaning down and settling the pokemon on the ground before he looked to the other trainer. "Well then, you have your pokemon and you have your items" he said as he glanced around, looking to the door behind the other child.
"Unless you have anything you want to ask, anything you need to know, then you are free to go" the boy said as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, settling his arms across his chest. This would be a curious pairing but with someone like this, he had a feeling both trainer and pokemon would help each other grow. |

Important Info
Season
Good news, Autumn is here! The sticky heat of the summer is finally gone, but the bad news? Its gotten very cold very fast. Berrys have fallen early from their perches, fruit and food is getting caught in snap frosts and icy mornings and this is leading to very cold mornings, pokemon getting desprate quickly and dark and chilly evenings
Next season change ~ May 20th
Swarming Pokemon!
Encouraged Characters
Currently, our character numbers are pretty even, so aside from us gently encouraging more civilians and breeders...go nuts!
Numbers of Gijinka on site have dropped, too, so they're open to be applied for at the moment- though, if you're interested, go check out the adoptable threads for many wanted ones! They could always use players! ;-)
