APPEARANCE
Standing at 5'3" with a scrawny, skinny build, Mickey has never been the biggest kid on the playground. In fact, he looks like a stiff breeze might be able to knock him over, though he actually is surprisingly athletic. He has pale green eyes and blonde hair down to his neck, often barely combed and mostly left in its natural, mop-like state. He's got his share of scars from scrapes when he was younger, though most are long faded by now, and a faint dusting of freckles on his face and arms.
His trademark outfit is his yellow coat, with a hood giving the vague impression of a dinosaur with the eye markings and spines down the back, though he does remove it when it gets too hot, revealing a simple blue tee-shirt. Coupled with a comfortable, easy to wear pair of blue-green shorts and a well-used pair of tennis shoes, he's always ready to go on an adventure with his trusty yellow scooter.

HISTORY
Born in Johto's largest city, Mickey's sense of adventure and disregard for his own safety goes back very early. His grandmother was a famed trainer and pokemon artist in her day, and he'd grown up looking at her drawings and listening to her stories whenever she came to visit. He took this as inspiration to sneak out of the city almost every day, sketching wild pokemon on the routes nearby. He was always reprimanded when his parents caught him, but even they had to admit his drawings were good, and his grandmother was endeard that he looked up to her so much - though she too echoed her parents warnings of how important it was that he not go wandering until he was old enough to have a pokemon of his own.
Unfortunately, he didn't listen, and in fact his excursions grew bolder and bolder as he got older, until he eventually went as far as Ilex forest. This proved to be a mistake, when he encountered a very unfriendly Venonat. He wanted to sketch the poison-type pokemon and got a poison-powder to the face for his trouble. If it wasn't for a passing trainer finding him laying there, unable to move for the pain he was in, he likely wouldn't have made it home at all.
While he did recover, the incident did have a long-term effect on his health, which is part of the reason he's so small and scrawny for his age. It also caused some fatigue issues that persist to this day. Moreover, the scare made his parents crack down on him, taking his sketchbooks and forbidding him from leaving the city - and they didn't give any indication that restriction would be lifted when he became old enough for a pokemon journey. When he looked to his grandmother for support, she sympathized, but agreed with his folks - who proceeded to gradually remove her from Mickey's life, for fear of her stories inspiring further escapades.
The next few years were agonizing for him, as he wondered if he'd ever be left off the leash again. He tried his best to show he could be responsible, that he wouldn't do something like that again, but the boy's reckless nature didn't exactly help him prove his point. Meanwhile, he grew distant from his peers at school. Bullying had always been a problem for him, which was part of why he'd spent much of his childhood scketching pokemon instead of playing with friends - he didn't have any, and being the smallest kid in his class didn't exactly help matters.
Time went on. His tenth birthday passed. Then his eleventh, then his twelfth. At this point, he'd more or less accepted that he wouldn't be allowed to go on a pokemon journey like so many of his peers. Until, that is, his parents told him on his birthday, very much out of the blue, that they were going to send him to stay with his grandmother for a year. This elated him of course, as they hadn't spent much time together since the incident occured, but the real joy came when he opened up a package she'd sent for him while on the ferry. In it was appointment information for the Shula pokemon lab, a brand new sketchbook, and a note that told him she expected it to be filled with drawings by the time he reached her home in Glacierpeak town (along with assurance that his parents had approved his journey).
With his life finally moving forward again, Mickey can hardly wait to begin his journey at last.
