Shulian Pokemon Quests
So You Want a Shulian Pokemon?
That's wonderful!
We on the staff are thrilled to see that you want to help improve the lore of Shula and use some of our site Fakemon.
However, obviously, these Pokemon are going to be incredibly rare, just like getting a Shulian Form - but unlike Shulian Forms, we are pleased to introduce a new way in which you will be able to try your luck at capturing one!
Quest Info
Quests will be a new form of modded thread, meaning that it is a thread between one played character, and one member of the staff.
Similar to event threads, these quests will have a generic guideline for how to complete them. Depending on the quest you choose, you will have a particular scenario which you need to play out.
Perhaps you're a ranger asked to help rescue Pokemon from a flash flood, or a trainer caught up in the deluge yourself. Perhaps you're a Team Rocket member using the chaos of the disaster to get up to some mischief of your own, or a civilian simply caught in the crosshairs.
In any case, each scenario will include themes such as a battling element, a 'solvable' problem which the player will need to find a solution to, and a 'searchable' incident where they might get clues as to how to help hinder, or save others in the scenario.

So, Is this like an Event?
Yes and no. Similar to an event, there will be a set time limit in which you must complete the thread. In most cases, you have three weeks from the time you start the thread to the very end post.
If, after three weeks, the storyline is not completed, it will be closed by the mod and not be able to be opened or continued - you will have to try the scenario again at another time.
And How Am I Supposed to Get a Shulian Pokemon Doing This?
Ah, therein lies the fun - while the thread itself will work out like a event, allowing for skills and sets to be learned like any old modded thread, Quests also include an unknown variable.
If that variable is met during the course of the thread, then bam - you get a chance to meet and capture a Shulian Pokemon!
Wait...A Chance?!
Well, of course! To catch a Shulian Pokemon you might have to battle or befriend it just like anyone else - but given their rarity, there is a solid chance that your pokeball will not work. Roughly speaking, a fifty-fifty chance. If you're lucky - well, congrats! You have a new rare Pokemon added to your team! If not...well...there's always next time.
So What is the Secret Variable that Generates a Shulian Pokemon?
If we told you, it wouldn't be a secret, would it!
Shulian Quest Q&A
Q: Can multiple people do the same Scenario at the same time?
A: Of course! If every player wants to do the same scenario, they can - but they must do it in individual threads. Each Quest thread must be labeled as such- similar to labeling wilds, safaris and labs -and be participated between a mod and a character.
Q: How many characters can I have (as an individual member) participate in a Quest?
A: To save the sanity of our moderating team, we ask that only ONE character PER member be placed in a scenario at a time. Similarly, that whatever character a member chooses to have a quest, that they finish any other modded threads before embarking. So, for example:
Member Somebody has two characters: Joey and Jesse. Joey can participate in a Quest, but Jesse cannot until Joey's quest is finished. Jesse can have a Safari, a Wild or a Battle Thread, but Joey cannot until his Quest is finished.
Q: What Do I get if I see a Shulian Pokemon, but do not catch it?
A: We encourage all who see a Shulian to post in the Shulian Pokemon Database at the completion of every quest or scenario where they end up running into a wild Shulian Pokemon, with any observances they have.
Q: Do I get anything else besides a Shulian Pokemon?
A: Regardless of how your scenario turns out - whether you see a SP or not - by it's end, you will receive any EXP or perks that you would gain for participating in a wild thread or any other modded thread, as well as the opportunity to catch more mundane Pokemon that you'd run into along the way.
Q: How do I determine what Quest to do depending on what sort of Shulian Pokemon I am looking for?
A: With each scenario, we will post WHAT Pokemon are able to be encountered - from three options. This is, of course, only if the Pokemon have been registered in the database- any undiscovered Pokemon will be marked with a ???.
If you meet the secret variable known to the staff members, we will roll a die and pick between one of those three Pokemon to meet - so you might do the same scenario multiple times but run into different Pokemon.
Q: Are other Shulian Pokemon going to be added?
A: YES! We hope to be adding new Shulian mons on the basis of a few every few months, so keep an eye on what is available. Alternatively with the change of the seasons the scenarios will be changed out too - so keep an eye on the changing scenarios to see who's available to become your newest Pokemon friend!
Q: Can I extend the time or add extra time to my thread if I feel I will not be able to finish it?
A: The short answer is...no. If you are unable to complete a quest once it is started, it will be archived after three weeks. There is no penalty to you for abandoning the thread, and you will be able to start a new one.
The ONLY exception is when it is by fault of the MOD that thread is not posted in for days at a time. Obviously, that will be taken into consideration, and as there is a strict time limit on these threads, there is more of a drive for mods to keep up the energy needed to push these scenarios along.
ANY case where an extension may be deemed given is strictly to be determined on a case by case basis.
ANY case where an extension may be deemed given is strictly to be determined on a case by case basis.
Q: Will I be able to do all scenarios no matter my skill level?
A: Not exactly - we would like to reward some members who have been around for longer, and who prove their commitment to remaining active, by giving them the chance to roleplay with and as these unique Pokemon.
This isn't to say that ALL Quests are going to be age-locked, or open to only certain character types, but that there will be some conditions that will need to be met for scenarios where the reward may be a much-loved or something we feel might be an incredibly powerful reward Pokemon.
Some conditions may be, but are not limited to:
- Class Requirement: Only characters of a certain class (Ranger, Team Rocket, Coordinator, Trainer, Civilian, etc.) Can complete the Quest at this time.
- Pokemon Level: Your team must be a minimum level to participate.
- Pokemon Gender: You must have a Pokemon of a particular gender in order to participate - either male or female. Or EXCLUDE a particular gender on the chosen team.
- Pokemon Typing: Your team must include at least one Pokemon of a particular type, usually including a type move as well, in order to participate.
- Gym Badge: A character might need to have a certain gym badge before they are able to participate in the Quest.
How Do I Get to Pick a Quest?
Each time you pick a quest, we ask that you make a thread in whatever area you're taking the quest in, then post in this thread saying WHAT Quest Scenario you are choosing and confirming what Pokemon team you're choosing to complete that quest with. Your Quest Thread should be linked in your post in this thread.
This way, mods will know what is going on and that a Quest is underway.
Within the first post of the Quest, we ask that you restate what scenario that you have chosen by quoting the Quest Case File in some way, as well as re-stating the team that you will be using.
From there, you write as if it is a regular thread, and voila - you're on your way to a new and exciting Pokemon adventure!
