Xander Brandt
NAME Xander Brandt | AGE Nineteen |
OCCUPATION Ranger | HOMETOWN Ecruteak City [Johto] |
SEXUALITY Bisexual | PLAYED BY Tom |
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS: • Strategic - Xander's always been a bit of a mastermind, despite acting like he's not in control of things. Setting up situations and planning according to unknown factors has always been his way of survival. Being able to know what's happening around him and reacting to events is ingrained into him. This strategic attitude helps in his work and pokemon training too. • Independent - Xander grew up in a family that's never been quite whole. All of his life, he's been a kid who's had to survive through his own means. This has matured him beyond his years and having led to him knowing how to handle himself in the world. Xander's always been the type to keep to himself and be able to handle anything by himself. • Careful - Xander's always had an affinity for the natural side of the world. Caring about the environment due to nature being the only constant in his life. Xander is always careful in his decisions and thinks through most things. He's careful about the way he interacts with the world and is caring of people, even if he doesn't always seems to be. • Passionate - Passion for Xander is apart of his whole demeanor. He truly believes everything he says and will not dissuade himself if he believes his gut is correct. Xander's passion is hidden a lot of the time, but he always puts in a hundred percent effort into the things he believes in. • Open-Minded - Xander grew up surrounded by people who thought very similarly, but never questioned their own beliefs. He's always questioned the world around him and has been open to understanding other people in the world, unlike his family. Xander's always been someone to listen to the ideas around him and take them in. | NEGATIVE TRAITS: • Distrustful - Xander struggles to trust most people. While he's open-minded, he doesn't trust individual people very easily. There's always a belief in the back of his head that people are always out to get him. To trust someone is to give a lot of yourself to them and Xander won't do that willingly, unless a lot of time has passed. • Selfish - As someone who loves his alone time, he's not someone to be altruistic by nature. The first person to worry about is himself and no one else. As far as he cares, everyone else can handle themselves. Though, he still desired to be a ranger, mostly for his own selfish reasons. • Rigid - Xander does not deal with change very well. Change meant that he couldn't plan ahead for the problems that were surely going to come his way. Most of his life, he stuck to routines to avoid the harshness of the world around him. Unmoving in his own beliefs, he's stubborn to a fault if he truly believes in something. • Argumentative - Disagreement will come up with Xander always. He will argue his points until the end. Even fi it means throwing himself into the center of attention. Xander likes to argue about almost everything. He'll bring up anything just for the thrill of it. It's a bit harsh, but it's the way he used to relieve a lot of his stress during his family back home. Bad habits die hard. • Arrogant - Xander always comes off as arrogant. Always acting as if he's got everything together and solved, he comes off a bit arrogant to people. Believing that his own instincts and intentions are usually the best options for most situations, he will come off as above others. Even if he's not intending to. |
LIKES • Bug Pokemon - Xander's a bug freak. He's got a love for nature, but he really truly loved watching bug pokemon in nature. He's always able to name different biological differences in pokemon and will talk about bug pokemon facts all day if you let him. Though, it takes a while before he goes all bug maniac on people. • Nature - A lot of Xander's life revolved around the nature he grew up around. There was always peace in the woods for him. No family to get under his skin. No Team Rocket to find him. All of nature was a place for him to feel at ease unlike the rest of the world. • Sweets - Despite his rather put together attitude, Xander's got a soft spot for sweets. A baked good, candy, chocolate, or any sort of sweet are his preferred rewards for himself. Xander will pretty much do most things if sweets are apart of the deal too, as long as it doesn't stray too far from his own thoughts. • Research - Xander spends a lot of his time researching different topics. It's less about the information at times, but the process of research. He loves the process of finding out information he didn't know about topics, but also discovering new things about the world itself. One of his biggest dreams is to discover a new bug type pokemon. • Peace - Xander enjoys his alone time. There's nothing better for him than to be in a quiet place with his own head. For the most part, he will seek out peace in the world for his own gain. Growing up, he didn't have any peace at all, so he thrives in those fleeting moments of time. | DISLIKES: • Team Rocket - Xander dislikes Team Rocket as an organization. The organization itself has caused a lot of harm to pokemon from his experiences both with his parents and siblings and the people he had gotten to know while still in Ecruteak City. Though, Xander also understands that the people in Team Rocket aren't necessarily the bad guys everyone expects them to be. In his mind, they're brainwashed by the people above them. • Interruptions - Xander hates being interrupted. Whether it's during his alone time or a conversation, he hates interruptions. In his eyes, it's like the person interrupting felt like his time or words weren't good enough to have. • Hypocrisy - Xander doesn't like people who flip on their beliefs a lot. He's always calling out injustices where he sees fit. The world is filled with hypocrisy, but he believes people should be passionate in their own beliefs. He doesn't like when there's an uncertainty to people and systems. • Sour Foods - With a sweet tooth, he hates sour treats and flavors. The idea of having a sour candy makes his mouth hurt even without having one. He doesn't get how anyone could like anything sour. It's unbelievable! • Anger - Xander doesn't deal with anger very well. Yelling triggers his fight or flight response a lot of the time. A lot of anxiety comes from loud yelling, especially if it's at him. Xander dealt with a lot of anger in his youth and prefers to stay away from it. |

APPEARANCE
Xander Brandt stands at a height of 5'7" and has a rather lanky, but strong build from his years spent in Ecruteak City. The first thing people notice about Xander is his calculated demeanor; always looks as if he's judging a situation or person at all times. A faded purple color to his irises at times where the happiness of a kid who grew up to fast appears, but at other times the purple gleams in amusement and confidence that could warm someone. The purple hair cut to a short length by his own his owns from years of practice, leaving the back part closer to a medium length. Every morning combing through it with a comb, checking to make sure he's able to see enough for the day. Due to his upbringing in Ecruteak City and being near the kimono girls shows, he's really gotten a knack for using mascara and eyeliner on occasion when he's feeling really up to the challenge. Most of his daily outfits consist of very Johto versions of style with flowy dark robes with various of different colors. Most of the time, aiming for comfortability and practicality than formality. The one piece of clothing that never changes is the large veil hat that he's had since fleeing from the Johto region, the object which helped disguise his identity from his family.
HISTORY
Every story begins with a lesson to be learned. In Xander Brandt's story, it starts with a family. A family made up of regular people in a regular city. A scientist mother who spent her entire life researching pokemon biology and ecology. A ex-trainer father who spent his entire life battling for himself. Brothers and sisters, much older than Xander himself, who have gone on their own journeys and become many different professions. A perfect and loving family to everyone else on the outside. Xander Brandt as a kid was nothing more than an excitable boy who loved the world around him. Exploring the woods around their home, he found peace in the natural world. A perfect family in many ways. Surrounded by the community of Ecruteak City, they made the perfect life there.
No one could guess what was really happening behind closed doors. Team Rocket in the Johto Region wasn't uncommon, but no one else knew the Brandt Family held many secrets. While his mother was a scientist, she had been a scientist who failed her original research. Laid off by other scientists, she'd found Team Rocket and climbed the ranks until her own research had been conducted from the safety of their own home. As a child, Xander had spent days watching his mother's experiment. Her words of endearment were nothing more than wanting him to learn under her guise. Team Rocket's future in his own hands, at least, that's what his mother always believed. The next generation of Team Rocket grunts is what his parents believed they were raising. Every experiment was a lesson for Xander to learn. For the glory of Rocket, he would learn from his mother. Even if he were to argue, he's meant to listen. Listen is what he did.
As for his father, no one could know the training was an act. While his father was a trainer in all aspects, he's a criminal in others. An admin for Team Rocket, built upon years of stealing pokemon. Taking from trainers and training to become his own, he would control pokemon at any cost. It was the Team Rocket way. Even if that meant breaking pokemon's mindsets to his own whim, Xander had spent many days watching his father's methods. Told to be a man and accept that the world would always need Rocket. Pokemon were meant to be used for power in his father's eyes. Despite his distaste for the methods of his father's training, he was forced to help when he got older. Told to accept his position as the world will prove to him that there's no way to survive. For a time, Xander Brandt had believed him. The world was a cruel place filled with a system to keep the struggling people beneath others.
As for his siblings, they were the same as him. Kids who've grown up in a home that trained them to be a generation of strength. Experiments, training, and teachings blessed upon them by their parents. Love formed long ago, turning into a power couple in Rocket. A scientist and admin, determined to bolster Rocket's numbers, but also train the perfect Team Rocket. The ones who believed their family will be on top. Hold the power of Rocket through their own blood. Xander had understood how to win. Strength comes from a plan. The ultimate plan was to create a force that no one could take down. In a way, he was less of a boy, but an experiment for his parents. There was love, but it was stilted with a need for power, for control, and he would refuse to fail them.
As a kid, he always believed this was the way of the world. A place where humanity had to be above the rest. People only mattered if they were useful. People only mattered if they could outwit the rest of the world. His siblings were stronger than most. Built themselves entirely to the cause of Team Rocket. Xander was with them at a young age. The idea of being the strongest and the smartest felt right to him. In his small mind, he believed it to be the only way to be loved. Usefulness was born out of love. Rewarded when he showed true Rocket beliefs, he would be given time with his parents if he succeeded in watching experiments, helping out with them, or truly living the Rocket beliefs.
Taken to see the Kimono Girls with his parents if he'd done really well. Those soft moments of seeing legends he never truly understood with the ploy of seeming put together in front of the people of Ecruteak City. Outside of his family, he always enjoyed the nature of Ecruteak City. The pokemon that always were out and about as if showing off to the people around. Growing up, he'd seen pokemon as a means to strength. People only proved his points. Battling was a way to solve disputes in the world. Pokemon were a means to prove one's worth to one another.
Except, as he got older, he questioned the world around him. Nature was peaceful. People would make looks if he spoke too far about ideals. His parents' love was tainted with a desire for him to get stronger. There was always a deal to be made for it. If he learned about the people around, if broke in to a place on his own accord, if he trained with no heart. All of his siblings would push him harder and harder. The first time he truly felt seen was when he was locked up alone, after questioning his father's methods, a little joltik rested above in the corner of his room. The little bit of water on his finger given to the little spider, who's eyes stare at him with intrigue.
Befriending Volt was the best evening of his life, the two of them were inseparable. Except, his father felt the need to show Xander what pokemon were. Forcing the two of them to train for hours and hours on end. Volt was only a baby at the time, pushed to his limits. Xander felt his heart break over and over during those training days. His heart always wasn't in it. The feeling of hurt echoed through him. Only during the quiet of night, when they would go to the forest. The quiet of night would make his evenings for the silence of no judging eyes always filled him with a calmness.
Once he turned sixteen, he felt the need to escape his family. Their total control over his life was becoming too much. When he presented the idea of becoming a ranger, his parents saw it as a perfect way to introduce him as a double agent. During that point on, his parents were harder with him. Harsher with their words and ideas. Days turned into nightmares at they pushed him to extremes. Claimed his siblings had survived much more than him. Claimed that the world would drag him through the mud at any opportunity it got. As a teenager, he'd seen so much already. Experienced meetings with other Rocket grunts, experienced training methods that took him to extremes.
Every moment made him feel lost. There was no love in those halls. No, he was trapped as a belief in what a new Team Rocket would be. Xander Brandt wasn't a boy. He wasn't a man. He wasn't a person. No, he was a tool in the machine of Team Rocket. Time had already run out. There was no escaping his parents. That was until he spent time becoming a ranger. A plan formed in his mind. Setting up the tools of his own to create an escape from the people who claimed to be his family. As soon as he was eighteen, he knew there would only be one chance. Working as a ranger in Johto was fine for the bit, but he always had his family nearby.
The only way to escape was to escape to somewhere far from their reach. A place even his parents wouldn't dare go. Volt was with him the entire way. A plan was set into motion. A desire to escape from the grips of his parents, he set up a plan. On his nineteenth birthday, he set the plan into motion. Every story has a lesson to be learned, but for Xander, there was a lesson to be forgotten. Upon the morning of his birthday, he snuck under the guise of the night sky. Collecting as much data as he could from his mother's lab, he grabbed everything he could. Including the frightened Blipbug in the corner, who he immediately put in the pokeball on the other side of the room. Grabbing everything he can, he rushes out of the home.
Only minutes later was he being chased through Ecruteak City, with them all pretending to not be outright fighting. The only way he makes it past them is by shielding his face with a hat, hidden from his family's peering eyes everywhere. Making it all the way to Goldenrod City, where he boards the first ship to Shula. The farthest place he could afford going to. Upon getting on the boat, he puts everything into a letter to Johto authorities. Unsure of if it'll actually reach them. His heart hammers as he lets himself breath upon the calm ocean air.
Away from the expectations and the fears of a past, he made the choice.
Shula would be his home.
