APPEARANCE
**TRIGGER WARNING: CHILD ABUSE, VIOLENCE, POKEMON DEATH**
Twily is smoll, about five feet tall, with blond hair in pigtails and large, wide hazel eyes. She wears a pink and white checkered dress most of the time, with white leggings and tiny black shoes to match. She doesn’t really have a big wardrobe, seeing as how she ran away from home when she was ten.
She typically has a curious look on her face, unless a pokemon is being hurt or threatened, in which case she has a scowl that could melt your face off. She typically carries herself with caution and shyness. She hasn’t had a lot of good experiences with humans, and is typically more at-ease around pokemon, particularly ghost types.
She has a thin build, being rather on the skinny side, from years of neglect and little food to help her grow into a properly-built-out young woman. She typically wears her hair in twin ponytails, to increase her view as an innocent young girl. She likes to pretend she is still that innocent little girl, to garner as few looks towards her as possible. She has a couple scars on her back, from when she tried to stop Gallade and Gardevoir from hurting her late friend, Haunter, as a child.
She has a pale complexion, with paper-thin skin and a few acne scars on her face from when she was going through puberty without properly taking care of her face. (Through no real fault of her own).
HISTORY
Twilight’s parents were prominent psychic-type trainers in Sinnoh. They belonged to a ‘clan’ of psychic type trainers, who believed in the superiority of psychic types. Typically, in the clan, a psychic pokemon was presented to their children when they were babies, to create a bond between them as young as possible.
Now, Twily was presented with a ralts when she was two. The ralts was scared of Twilight, especially when Twilight tried to hug it. The clan leaders were stumped, as the ralts continuously ran away from Twilight. Twilight didn’t understand what was happening, but as she grew up a little more, it was clear that her and the ralts they’d presented her with were not to be partners, as it continuously rejected her, time and time again.
Her parents, around the time that Twilight was four, decided to have another kid. It was a boy, and the ralts that Twilight had always had problems with latched onto the infant boy immediately. Twilight felt rejected and hurt from the ralts’ obvious preference for her younger brother.
It was about a year later, upon being rejected by several other psychic pokemon, that she found a drifloon hanging about outside of camp. She took one of its hearts in her hand, and it began to lead her away from the camp. She wasn’t sure she should, but the pokemon seemed so earnest that she followed it away. It led her to a small abandoned house, and then floated through the walls of the house. It was a ghost! Twilight wasn’t scared, though. She was a brave girl, and a bit adventurous, so she examined the abandoned house for a way to get inside. She found a hole in the gate, and opened the front door.
She walked inside, and was surprised by a purple ghost with a large tongue jumping out at her. It laughed at her clear surprise, and after a moment, Twilight joined in with its laughter. It had got her, after all, and it would be rude not to laugh at a joke. The pokemon, a Haunter, was surprised by her laughter - usually such small children started to cry or scream at him after that joke. This little girl was clearly different.
He circled her, and giggled, grabbing her hand in one of its claws, and led her further into the abandoned house. More ghost pokemon popped up, surprised at the Haunter for leading a human into their territory. But as Twilight began to coo at the baby Gastly, it was clear that the girl was not afraid of them, which was a breath of fresh air for the ghosts.
It was then that the pokemon who led the girl to the abandoned house showed up again. Twilight was delighted to see her friend, and hugged the pokemon around its balloon body. The Haunter began asking the pokemon, a Drifloon, where she had found the human, and the Drifloon responded that Twilight was near the human camp nearby.
Twilight didn’t understand what the pokemon were saying, but she wanted to, so badly. She began to make the sounds that the pokemon around her were making, but she didn’t understand what she was saying. The pokemon around her began to laugh, and the Haunter looked at Twilight fondly. He pointed to the Drifloon and made a sound. Twilight copied the sound, and the Haunter gave her a thumbs up
It was through this method that Twilight began to learn the ghost pokemon’s language. The Drifloon would take her to and from the abandoned house every night, and Twilight would practice the language until she fell asleep, at which point the Haunter and the Drifloon would take her back to her bed at the camp.
It wasn’t long until Twily (the pokemon preferred the nickname to ‘Twilight’) was speaking the ghost pokemon’s langage, albeit with an accent. Twily was now eight years old, and her best friends were the ghosts in the abandoned house. Her brother and the ralts that had rejected her were as thick as thieves by then, her brother being four years old now.
She had been presented with several more psychic pokemon since the disaster with the ralts, but each of them had only to touch her mind to reject her. They didn’t like the aura of ghost around her, and her negative disposition.
One day while she was exploring the woods near the abandoned house with Drifloon and Haunter, she stumbled across the leader of the psychic clan and her father talking. She hid from sight with her friends’ help, and listened in on what they were saying.
“Twilight still has not shown any disposition toward a psychic type pokemon.” The leader was saying.
“Yes, unfortunate, that. We’ve just been letting her run into the woods, she seems happy there.” Her father responded.
“She needs to start working, if she is going to reject every psychic type pokemon we present to her.” the leader replied.
“Very well, Elder. We’ll begin her on some chores around camp. Perhaps she can be useful in other ways,” her father said.
From that day forth, she was expected to learn to cook, and to clean around camp, and basically do anything the psychics of the camp wanted her to do. She rarely had time to go visit her friends anymore, until one day it all came to a culmination when she was ten. Haunter was worried about her because she hadn’t visited in a while, and so he entered the psychic camp to look for her.
He entered her cabin, where he knew she stayed, and frightened Isaac as he was going through Twily’s closet, looking for a book he knew was in there. He called for his parents, who entered the room and saw the Haunter there, and they assumed the worst - that the pokemon was trying to hurt Isaac.
It was around that time that Twily came home, and she heard the commotion in her room, and she recognized Haunter’s voice, though she couldn’t hear what he was saying. She went to her room in time to see her parent’s pokemon, Gardevoir and Gallade, strike Haunter - Gardevoir with Dazzling Gleam and Gallade with Psycho Cut.
Twily cried out and raced forward, trying to protect her friend. Haunter breathed heavily behind her. “What are you doing, Twilight?” Her mother hissed. “This Haunter is trying to attack Isaac!”
“No, he would never do such a thing! He’s my friend!” Twily told her. Serene’s face twisted in disgust.
“A ghost pokemon? You need psychic pokemon, like the rest of us!” Fred exclaimed.
“I don’t want psychic pokemon, I like Haunter and Drifloon and Gastly!” Twily proclaimed.
Disgust and contempt, were the looks she was getting from her family. “She needs therapy,” her mother said to her father.
“Yes, therapy,” Fred agreed, then looked back at Twily. “Step aside, Twilight, so we can get rid of the ghost, and we can help you with your problem.”
“It’s not a problem! You just can’t stand pokemon other than psychic types! Well too bad! I like ghost types!” Twily said.
Fred stepped forward then, and grabbed Twily by the arm, dragging her away from Haunter, who took this as an act of aggression and aimed a Shadow Ball at Fred. The Gardevoir stepped in front of the Shadow Ball to protect her trainer, and was hurt by it. Gallade used Psycho Cut again, cutting Haunter down.
“NO! Haunter!” Twily tried to break free of her father’s grasp. She slipped from his grasp and stepped in the way of Gallade and Gardevoir's attacks. She was hurt, with scary cuts on her back, before she was dragged away from the fight once more by her father. She was forced to watch as Gardevoir and Gallade continued to attack Haunter, until he was on the floor, bleeding shadow from his wounds and no longer moving.
Fred finally let Twily go, and she raced over to Haunter, and as the rest of the family left the room, Twily cried over her dead friend. As she cried, she decided to run away from the psychic clan, for they had done nothing but shun her and force her to do things she didn’t want to do all her life, just because she wasn’t psychic-type compatible.
That night, while everyone slept, Twily snuck out of the camp and into the abandoned house. She let her little family of pokemon know what had happened to Haunter, and they all shared in their sorrow. She vowed to never return to the psychic camp.
It wasn’t long until the psychic type clan realized she wasn’t coming back. They began a search for her. Twily and her ghost friends were forced to abandon their house and flee the area. She found her way onto a boat headed for the Shula Region. She spent the next five years with her ghost pokemon friends, stealing food and money when she had too, and generally being a nuisance around Mossrock City.
It was upon running into a ranger helping one of her friends out of a trap, that she realized that maybe not all humans were bad people. She thanked the ranger, and asked him what his uniform was. She was introduced to the idea of being a ranger, and decided to try to become one. She would be the best ranger, helping pokemon and raising awareness that ghost pokemon weren’t as bad as some humans thought they were.
Upon deciding to become a pokemon ranger, she explained to her ghost pokemon friends that she was going to train some of them like she had seen other humans train other pokemon. Her friends were all excited at this idea, and though many of the Gastly wanted to become her first pokemon, she understood that only one of them could come with her.
So she set up a contest with the three Gastly, in which they would have to scare a human in the most ridiculous way, and that way she could decide which one was the best one. Surprisingly, they were all shown up by a Duskull by the name of Red, who used his red eyelight to lure a human into a dark alley before jumpscaring them and causing them to pee their pants.
It made Twily laugh so hard that she immediately invited Red onto her team. Knowing that she couldn’t split the three Gastly she knew so well, she invited a younger Gastly onto her team, a female by the name of Sprite. Red and Sprite got along well, and Twily decided to start her journey with them by her side.
