APPEARANCE
It is very rare sight to see Yurei outside of his usual mask and outfit, so rare in fact that those who know him make jokes that there is nothing beneath but a black hole. A white leather mask, resembling a beak, adorns his face, and his heavy black hooded leather coat is worn even in the heat of summer. He is fairly tall, standing at 6' 8", and if you saw him without his heavy clothes, you would wonder if he ever even eats, given how thin he truly is. Greasy black hair, eyes with bags around them that never seem to go away, and eyes so black you would swear you could fall in is what lies behind his haunting mask. His only affectation that he wears is a necklace from his mother that resembles Giratina.
HISTORY
Yurei Graves was born to a long line of undertakers and cemetery caretakers in Sinnoh, so even from a young age he was surrounded by death. Always a sickly child, Yurei would play in the cemeteries and graveyards like regular kids would play in parks or playgrounds. His friends weren't other kids, but the various ghost Pokemon who inhabited the graveyards. The village he and his family lived in lay on the outskirts of Hearthome city, home of the Ghost Gym Leader, Fantina, and Yurei had always maintained an inner hope of one day joining her as one of Gym trainers.
However, Yurei and his family were different than most of the people in Sinnoh, in that they did not worship the Great Creator, Arceus. No, he and his family worshipped the dark Pokemon, Giratina. He who rebelled against his creator, and as pennance, was locked away in the strange distortion world... at least, that is what most people of Sinnoh believe. As such, Yurei and his people were shunned from Sinnoh society, being seen as exiles and outcasts.
This is why, when a sickness came to Yurei's village, no help came...or so Yurei was told. After getting extremely sick, and watching his parents die from the disease, Yurei had given up hope that he and his younger sister would ever be saved. Then came Team Rocket, their saviors, with food and medicine to treat the plague. It was only much later that Yurei learned the supplies Team Rocket brought had been stolen from a Sinnoh relief effort, and that he and his people had not been abandoned.
Joining Team Rocket as thanks, Yurei quickly became a model grunt. Stealing, threatening business owners into paying protection fees, and hunting down overdue loan borrowers, Yurei did it all for his new family. One day while going through Kalos on a mission for Team Rocket, Yurei came upon two Pokemon, a Phantump and a Murkrow. The Murkrow's wing had been hurt, and the Phantump was defending it from the other wild Pokemon around. Taking a liking to them, Yurei adopted them, naming them Nevermore the Murkrow after an old poem he loved, and Grove the Phantom.
After being with Team Rocket for almost a decade, something happened that changed his life. The Gijinka revelation made Yurei question his own loyalty to Team Rocket. Deciding to look further into it, what he discovered made him sick. Everything he had been told about his life, the plague that killed his village, the supplies...Team Rocket was behind it all. It was THEIR bioengineered disease, THEY kept the supplies from reaching the village in time to save his parents. Disgusted and betrayed, Yurei ran. Living in seclusion for the past 8 years, he has finally decided to come out of hiding and take charge of his life once more.
