APPEARANCE
Despite his age, this young boy is rather short compared to his peers, standing at a mere 4’2 and weighing in at sixty pounds. He has pale skin, though it is obvious he at least spends some time outside, so he does not look sickly despite his small stature and thin frame. Short, messy brown hair frames his face, his bangs sometimes drooping to cover his light green eyes.
Thanks in part to a forced association with the colour pink that stems back further than the boy can even remember. He has grown something of a liking to the colour, and as a result, he often incorporates it into his wardrobe almost without fail. Whether it be something as simple and minimal as a pink stripe on a pair of pants, to as noticeable as a bright pink jacket. Alongside the pink the boy tends to also incorporate greens in some manner or another. His favourite jacket is a white zip-up sweater with green stripes and highlights throughout it. One of Danny’s favourite pair of light green and white running shoes.
He often carries around a blue backpack that is much brighter than his pants; this has been his backpack for most of his schooling life, and it shows by way of wear and tear. The bag has several holes that look to have been patched up one too many times, the left strap has very obviously been stitched back together after being torn; and the zipper on the smallest of the three pockets is unable to be zipped closed at this time as it is broken. Dotted throughout the bag’s exterior are varying pins of Pokemon and video game characters.

HISTORY
Daniel Maximilian Bennett was born to a set of parents who shouldn't really have been parents, or perhaps had gone lax, near neglectful upon the realization that their first child wasn't what they had expected. The couple had wanted a daughter, had purchased items for that daughter, and had imagined for hours on end how they would spoil her and raise her to be a beautiful Pokemon Coordinator like her mother. Everything was set for them to have a girl; even the doctor had said they would, but well, even doctors can be wrong from time to time about these things. They had a son.
With the birth of a boy instead of a girl, the couple had to reevaluate the plans that they had for their child and his future: Sure, they were stuck with a large amount of pink baby clothes, but that was fine; babies were cute no matter what, and their new son wouldn't know any different anyway. The two had needed to scrap the name they'd come up with, at least for the time being, and instead named the boy after both of his grandfathers, Daniel Maximilian Bennett.
Admittedly, for the first two years of Daniel’s life, things were good; his parents still took care of him and played with him; his mom showed him her Pokemon at an early age so that he might get used to being around them, and so forth. However, even in his toddlerhood, the child could feel something was off; he could feel that maybe he wasn't entirely wanted and that his parents didn't look at him in the way a parent should, with eyes of love and affection, but instead of crushed hope and some sort of regret. The couple hadn't taken much time off of work for their son, instead focusing on their careers and leaving the boy in the hands of varying babysitters or his relatives.
Danny did as any child would do at that age, yearned for his parents affection and attention, and wondered why they didn't seem to love him like those of other kids did. He had seen parents with their kids and the constant hugs, kisses, and reassurances they gave: How come his parents didn't do that for him? Yes, they hugged him and sometimes played with him, but beyond that, he just didn't know. They were absent more than they were ever home, and the little boy felt it to his core.
Daniel’s life would not improve much over the next few years, though there was a notable change that took place that made it even more clear to the boy that he was a little more unwanted than he had thought. It came in June, after Daniel's third birthday, in a very small and unassuming form: Daniel gained a baby sister. It turned out his mom had been pregnant, which he hadn't known about. While she had been around during the beginning of it, the couple had sent their son off to his aunt's breeding farm for the latter bit of everything: They had had their son sent back about two months after the birth of the baby, citing that they wanted quality time with just their new daughter and that their son was old enough—despite being three years old—to learn a few lessons from his aunt and uncle about their own Pokemon and the like. They named the girl Bernadette Tamara Bennett.
Daniel quickly became jealous of his sister, though he did also immediately love the baby upon seeing her—two very contradicting feelings for the young boy to feel. No longer did his mother force him to wear more feminine clothing since she had a daughter to dress up in cute dresses, no longer did she use the little time they spent together trying to get her son to practice learning coordination, something he had never liked doing. Instead, the couple spent their free time more with the baby, dressing her up in adorable dresses, taking pictures, and taking actual maternity/paternity leave for the sake of this baby, which they had never done for their son. They looked at her in a way they had never looked at their son, with no traces of disappointment or odd longing present in their eyes whatsoever when it came to Bernadette.
More and more over the years, Danny was left to the side emotionally, the child falling into one of the few things his father had bonded with him over: comics and video games. The child lost himself in the worlds of comic books and games, and once he learned how to write, he started writing his own stories—anything to distract himself from his feelings, even at a young age. Those around him—teachers, family, and so forth, simply believed the boy was an introvert.
Daniel as a child, had a set of very noticeable prominent buckteeth, which would become something others would target him for and make fun of him for; comments such as calling him a Bidoof among other things; these comments were even at times made by his parents in a passing joking manner, neither thinking such would hurt their son's feelings. This would not be corrected until he was 10 and his grandfather payed for braces.
Daniel, much like some other children, spent most of his time in school studying to improve his grades, partially hoping to grab his parents attention with good marks to make them proud, while also just working to do well when he enjoyed the subject matter. He only had a few friends, though he had more than enough freedom to hang around them whenever he wanted. Among those he considered his friends were his next door neighbours, who often watched over him while his parents and sister were away; his parents often took Bernie out to dance classes and performances, often on days the boy himself might've had a soccer game or something else he was enrolled in: Where his parents would miss more of the games than they would ever end up attending, the neighbour couple would come. They understood the boy was lonely, that his parents were busy, and that though they had been trying to have a child of their own, they hadn't succeeded at the time. He thought of them as his family as much as they did. The neighbour's nephew would come to visit every few weekends, and Danny finally got an outside-of-school friend—the kind he wasn't just sort of friends with because they were in the same class.
Bernadette and Danny were treated very differently, and it showed in their actions and personalities. Danny was a more bookish, quiet, and nervous kid who didn't like crowded places. Bernie was far more outgoing, strove for the spotlight and fame, and loved everything about her mom's work—the same career she wanted to work her way into herself. She, unlike her older brother, was also spoiled, and that itself showed in her attitude. Bernie would scream, cry, and throw temper tantrums. Everything had to be how she wanted it, and her parents were more than happy to oblige and encourage this behaviour, though they did temper it at least a little bit. As she grew older, Bernie would become more of a diva than a spoiled brat.
Much like every kid within the region, the time eventually came for Daniel to go on his Pokemon journey at age 10, something he was denied being able to do as his parents were insistent that they didn't have the money to buy him supplies and the like and that he couldn't go. Those were excuses he knew, and it made him very angry. For Bernie's seventh birthday, she had been given a Rosalia so that she could have her own Pokemon to train for future contests. The creature had been purchased from some out-of-region breeder for a rather large amount of money, and yet Daniel couldn't get a FREE Pokemon from the lab because they supposedly couldn't afford to pay for any travel supplies he might need. That was dumb, and he knew it, as did they.
As a compromise to this and to make their young friend feel better, at the behest of their nephew, the neighbour couple gave the boy a Clefairy which had worked with the husband's company for a time but didn't fit the mould entirely well; the boy would cherish this creature and do his best to take care of her, keeping her away from his sister as much as possible, though the girl didn't want the Pokemon. It hadn't stopped her from whining that her brother had a Pokemon that was stronger than hers and netting herself a second Pokemon before she was even ten years old.
Daniel had to say goodbye to his neighbours not long after they'd given him the Clefairy as the husband had gotten a job transfer and the family was moving to a region called Shula, taking with them the biological son they had recently had and wishing more than anything they could take Daniel as well: Alas, that wasn't possible.
Now only able to talk to his former chosen family through video call, and having lost the few other friends he had to their own Pokemon Journeys, Daniel found himself unsure of what to do and threw himself into his schooling, taking up swimming lessons and basically any locally offered lessons he could to avoid being at home. When he ran out of those or they came to an end, he shut himself in his room or ran around the neighborhood doing odd jobs for whoever he could to earn money for himself. Now no longer needing supervision as he had in his youth. Daniel's parents had begun going on longer trips with Bernie, actually entering her in a Pokemon Contests for beginner children to partake in, though they did drag him to a few of those as well. Honestly, though he wasn't a big fan of the contests in themselves and had grown mildly frustrated with having to try and vie for his parents attention and love, Daniel did find himself enjoying spending time with his family where he could, even trying to offer his sister advice if he thought he had any that was good. It was in those few times that Daniel got to see his sister shine, to see her do something she loved, that the boy didn't mind that she got so much more attention than he did: He got to do what he liked more or less all the time even if his parents weren’t involved a lot so, to see his little sister happy and actually acting somewhat kind and bonding with her own Pokemon was quite a nice change. His parents did still occasionally attend his ballgames, mostly his dad, as he had been the first to encourage the sport in Daniel’s earliest years. --
Shortly after Daniel turned thirteen Bernie was allowed to start her own Pokemon Journey: The lab wouldn’t let her get a Pokemon through them as she already had two herself so her parents purchased one of the standard Starters for the girl as well before sending her off: Danny, though still jealous of his sister and feeling more spurned with this development considering how his own desires had been squashed, did take some pleasure in the fact that his sister would be forced to learn that the world wouldn’t bend to her whims like their parents always had and maybe, just maybe, she would become something of a better person for it. He could only hope. Regardless of his feelings for his sister and Pokemon Contests the boy knew this was her dream, Daniel would keep track of his sisters slowly budding Coordinating career through online sources. He was still her family and his relatives (not his parents mind you) made sure the boy had support and knew that family was important so he would still support her dreams from afar.
Given his past experience with his parents, Danny came to the conclusion that he might need to save up himself for a Pokemon journey and so over the next few years, he did just that: Any allowance he got, any birthday money and Christmas money he got from his grandparents or any he earned through helping around the neighbourhood, went into a hidden stash to pile up. Finally after three years the boy managed to save up enough to pay for a plane ticket that would take him to a region much farther away, The Shula Region. He had some relatives who lived there that agreed to host him while he got started and his former neighbours lived there so, with little more then a note to his parents the boy took off to begin the journey he had wanted to overtake for several years now.
