The plains were not a place a lot of people went, it was a good place for a lot of room and for pokemon who either needed space to charge around or wanted to just throw sparks in the sky. As such, Sid and Dashie were having a field day out there, running around one and other and all the giggling was driving lars mad.

He was here to train, the idea was to come across someone else with idea and he had the noisy pokemon out to draw the eye but Xerneas in the trees it was grating. They were always moving, always laughing, always chattering about this or that. Shaking his head as he stopped walking for a moment, the man took a small breath before there came a snicker from his side.

"If you have something to say, say it, else, shut it" he grumbled out, turning to find his shadow lifting from itself and the dark type there grinning at him. A few seconds later and her own shadow stepped out, looking between the trainer and canine and then shaking her head. As always, the level headed of the pair of his dark types was keeping the peace.

Indigo plashed through the wind-whipped grasses. Lucas grimaced, not particularly comfortable on the plains. He wasn’t a pokemon, but the odd mineral composition added a certain static to the air. It felt thick and uncomfortable. Yet, it might prove good for Indigo’s development.

“Heh, heh, hehe!” the little electric type panted. He smelled others!! Hot and sweaty, panting just as much as he was!! A predator’s instincts drew him toward the smell.

Sumac, too, was interested in what the odor was. Though, as he had better vantage than the elekid, he spotted something of interest in the distance. One head turned to Lucas whilst the other remained locked on the potential targets.

“Smells like us.”

Lucas looked where Sumac’s yellow-eyed head was staring. No. This wasn’t a situation of smelling like them (Team Rocket). That was another member of Team Rocket. And, Indigo was headed right toward those fast moving pokemon of Lawrence’s. He declined to do call out to his own pokemon and stop him (Indigo would either have his way or be corrected.) to instead just continue the path of interest his team had already trekked toward the other man.

He wasn’t going to raise his voice for the other blonde.

Lucas Night - Could do Sid and Iron too if you wanted, baby battle

Lucas shifted himself, twisting around to pull his bag from his side and then turn to throw it out over the ground. The sides of the bag twisted before they popped open and the blanket uncurled itself over the uneven ground, after a few seconds, the edges of it began to grow and lars took a moment to turn around and check on his younger pokemon.

He found Sid on his back, something which was an impressive feat in itself but then noted Dashie was atop him, standing tall and proud as gem covered feet kicked around him. Shaking his head, lars turned to sit on the now inflated blanket only to find one edge of it with his dark type duo already curled up in place.

He sat down slowly, shaking his head and nudging the pair with one knee until he was comfy, it earned a small growl from the canine but with a tail pressed to her head, she went quiet after a few moments and lars looked around himself. He could see Dashie had hopped off his ally now, trying to nudge him back over to the right way up with a series of tail whips now.

As they got closer, Lucas couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing. A blanket? And, an inflated one at that? Insulation from a possible lightning storm? Or, proof of a leisurely picnic? Truly perplexed, Lucas stopped about two yards from Lawrence to greet the other man. Though, describing the following words as a greeting was stretching the definition of the word for sure.

“What are you doing?”

Sumac remained at Lucas’s side, disinterested in wasting energy investigating anything that wasn’t food or a required battle. Indigo, meanwhile, would keep rushing toward the other pokemon. Particularly, he was drawn by the charge of the other electric type.

Hopefully, Dashie was feeling friendly, because the elekid would go about tugging on the yamper’s tail inquisitively. “Heheheh, what the heck?!”

Dashie turned at a speed which would have seemed odd to any other type as someone touched him, however seeing the other pokemon and feeling the surge coming from him, he knew the other male shared a type with him right away. Grinning to the new arrival, he barked loudly and then turned back to his team mate, trying to slam his back in to the rock type who remained on his back.

Lars for his part heard the comment, raised an eyebrow and turned to look up to the other man with a small smug smirk over his face. "Im waiting, only im waiting on a hard surface with planning and comfort" he replied, smirking a little deeper as he turned himself to lean back a little. Beside him, the pair of dark types seemed to uncurl from one and other and look to the new arrival, one with bright curious eyes and one with narrowed annoyed ones.

The other electric type was running away!! Unable to resist the urge to follow, Indigo chased after Dashie, giggling manically the whole time.

Sumac, meanwhile, used both heads to keep a close eye on both of the dark types. They were small and furry. By all indications, that marked them as possible prey. But, Lucas was talking peacefully with the other trainer. Thus, they were likely comrades. A shame. All of these fine, warm things and he had to keep both of his mouths closed.

“How perfectly vague. I didn’t take you for the picnicking type.” Lucas figured that Lawrence was actually waiting on a storm or something. He had an electric type or two of his own, Lucas knew, and pokemon like that were drawn to this sort of place. Lucas was bringing his own due to Indigo’s continual excellent behavior.

Obedience ought to be rewarded.

Dashie grinned to his new freind, clearly they were freinds seeing as the other pokemon had followed to help him and he took a few moments to bark in the pokemon face again, laugh, and then turn back to his task at hand. In this time, Sid kicked out his legs a little and rocked from side to side but it became very clear the Pokémon was not going to right himself, and Dashie began to throw himself as hard as he could in to the areas of the fairy type where there were not sharp gems sticking out. It seemed to help the rocking, but did not tip the male back to his feet.

Lars laughed as his co-worker spoke, rolling his eyes and lifting one hand up to wave to the other blonde. "And i didnt take you for a comedian, and yet, here we are" he replied shifting himself where he was sitting to seem a little taller, "So im told we have to train or something along those lines. What is it you want me for boss, because i got people to see this evening and im due a fun night" he found himself asking after a pause, the quiet in the air growing boring within seconds of landing there.

The other pokemon barked! Indigo’s eyes widened. Surely, this other thing was a fierce warrior! Yes, maybe it was better than just flesh and meat. This could be a good rivalry in the making! … So, the toddler-like ogre pokemon scampered after the yamper to assist in “attacking” Sid. (Maybe that fighting type strength would help push the rhyhorn right?)

Lucas’s eyes narrowed. He should have worn his glasses today, but he wasn’t inclined to do such if he didn’t need to read or otherwise force himself to acknowledge that his vision was slowly but surely worsening as he got older. It seemed like Indigo was behaving well enough.

“Far be it from me to hold up your debauchery.” Pot, kettle, black, and so many other sayings about hypocrisy. How rude Lucas was being, and after Lawrence had gone to the trouble of probably insincerely referring to him as “boss”! Did the Night man have no gratitude within him? Well, no. Not much. “Your yamper and Indigo seem to be attached to each other well enough. Let’s get this over with.”

Raising his voice, the man called out. “Indigo. Focus. It’s time to battle.” He ruffled his own hair as the fighting type obeyed, getting into position between the two men. “Go first. We just need to do this quickly.”

Indigo raised his arms. "Coooome at meeee!!"

With his freind aiding him, and Sid also trying to turn his head to see what was going on, the pair managed to tip over the huge pokemon just in time for lars to laugh at the comment from his co worker. Ok, fair, the other blonde was not quite in to the same scene as him but he was sure Lucas was no better with his free time and how he spent it.

Forcing himself to slowly stand, the man watched his fairy type being righted, the puppy he had rushing to his new freind and giving a series of excited yips and barks in thanks and then the other pokemon turn and focus to fight with his trainers call. Lars did not have that power, or rather, dashie did not have that focus.

"Dashie, words bud, use them words. Your buddy wants to play" the man called over, trying to use the same tactic he had used in that other battle and hoping it might work. It started well, the canine flicked out his tail to try and strike at the other pokemon in what lars knew to be his attempt to get the pokemon to chase him, and when he didnt in the first second that passed, the pup darted for him, the play bites which clarence was used to and rolled of Tisko being a little sharper and harsher on a pokemon a little less evolved.

It was underhanded, but it worked.

Was that thing not trained? Lucas’s eyes widened a fraction, looking aghast from Lawrence to the yamper. What was it with people and pokemon that didn’t obey, at least out of fear?! No, no, he reminded himself, this was how low Team Rocket had come. This sort of nonsense would have never stood back in Kanto in the glory days.

But, the glory days were gone and he was not in Kanto and he did not have the authority anymore to go telling anyone off about their team. A pity. “Quite the lively pup you’ve got there,” was all Lucas bothered to say.

Indigo, meanwhile, was distracted by the whip of Dashie’s tail. The nip after brought a yowl of pain from the blue baby pokemon. All playfulness went out of the window as Indigo went Berserk. Leering at the other pokemon, he began kicking furiously.

“Raaagggh!”

Dashie felt his attacks land, this was how he battled with the other boys back in the apartment because Starlight didnt like to battle with him unless she used the magic stuff. This guy got it, he came rushing at the pup and while dashie waited and wagged his tail, earning a glare and shivering a bit from the mean look, he knew it was all a game.

In the last moment, he rolled to one side and under the kick from the other pokemon, giggling as he went before he turned around. He tried to bring up his tail and trip the other pokemon, turning his head around to bite on the leg which hard tried to kick him with his tail wagging madly behind him.

Lars for his part chuckled, "Oh please, dont be coy with me blondie. No, dashie isnt much good at all this battling stuff, but thats sort of the point. Hes really good for selling the trainer with a new excited pokemon he cant control, for getting really close to people and allowing me to ger closer fetching him or even being really distracting. Just a matter of knowing the right way to make pokemon work for us, without breaking the stupid things" the man commented, crossing his arms over his chest as he laughed, replying to the other rocket member.

He missed!! Indigo’s mouth opened wide. This yamper was too fast!! Whoa! And, the little guy’s tail did trip him…! Which made the egg shaped pokemon roll away a bit before his arm stopped it, leaving him flailing.

Lucas watched this with a grimace. This was just like that battle with the pidgey… He needed to hurry up and evolve Indigo. The baby pokemon wasn’t a slouch, but he made a mental note to not bother too much with baby forms again until he had the resources to focus on nurturing them into adulthood.

“You do excel more on the front-facing side of things,” Lucas admitted. That had never been his interest. Perhaps he’d never had the patience for it. Perhaps he’d just gotten too comfortable in his role of going to get what was owed. It was easier, generally, to handle brutality. He’d done the subtle work of winning people over recently.

He didn’t want to do that as his primary mission. He could respect Lawrence’s methods if it meant he didn’t have to handle it himself. “Speaking of which, we should talk about the people in Redshore Town. You might make a better closer after the impression I made on them.” Time to reap the reward of play-pretending being a concerned citizen back then. “We could always use more business connections.”

By this time, Indigo had gotten back up. Pumping his fists, he used Thunder Shock!! … Which earned him a bewildered look from his trainer.

“You are battling another electric type! Think for a moment!”

Ok well the tail thing did work, that was one good thing, but it also didnt work because Dashie missed in his bite attack. Sure, he didnt want to hurt the other pokemon really but also, it was clear now they were battling from the way the other pokemon was. Well, maybe it was like him and couldnt control its sparks too good too, but the strong face it showed seemed to suggest a battle, right?

Trying to focus, though the sparks were a little painful, the boy tried to rush the other male again. This time, he tried to hit the arm of the other pokemon with this tail, hoping to push it off balance and then quickly spin around and bite down on the other arm. All this while, lars listened to lucas speak, grinned to his words and then tilted his head from side to side.

"Redshore? You want connections, or questions asked? I got no issue over there, got one good bar tender i can think of off the top of my head so i can work with that" he replied, eyes moving over lucas as he spoke. The funny thing was, he knew lucas was not higher ranking than him, he knew they were on the same footing and so his comments were just suggestions, but he also knew the mans Surname and what he used to be, so surely going drinking in the town he suggested couldnt hurt.

Curse his egg-like body!! Indigo fell again. This time, he didn’t roll away quick enough to avoid Dashie’s bite. Lucas watched all of this with unhidden disappointment. The gleeful cruelty of the little electric type was so promising, but it would be a long road to evolving him. Oh well. That’s what these battles were for.

“Connections,” Lucas clarified as he returned the elekid. “That thing destroyed buildings when it rampaged. I’m sure some are still frightened. And, others need rebuild businesses and homes—things we could benefit from.” He crossed his arms. Maybe he should look into pointing someone unconnected to Team Rocket into raising a fuss? Then, one of their own could swoop in and play hero.

He didn’t usually play that route. Yet, there was a power struggle going on. Team Diamond Crystal was trying to assert themselves as authority within the region. Yes, they had to best that group eventually… But, why not take advantage of how poorly this reflected on the current institution?

Focus on the battles at hand, he reminded himself.

“Let’s keep going. That’s one to zero. Iron, you’re up.” He clicked the next pokeball, revealing another Shulian variant.

The bug/dark type’s legs skittered. Unlike Indigo, who had been excited by the magnetism of the plains, the spinarak found himself uneasy.

Sumac watched impatiently. He would be up eventually…

Dashie frowned as the other pokemon fell back from his attack, though as he moved closer he did notice his legs would not move like he wanted them too and there was an ache growing over his back the more he tried to ignore it. All the same, he barked beside the fallen male, right before he was returned by his trainer. Oh, was it nap time? He did feel tired now, very tired in fact, but Sid didnt.

Looking to lars in confusion, the pup was pulled in to his pokeball before an answer was offered and lars clicked his fingers together. "Sid, buddy, did you not want to play?" the man called over, the fairy type looking from where dashie had just been, to his trainer, and then to the new pokemon the other person he didnt know sent out. Wait, was he meant to be playing? He thought it was a watching thing!

Looking to the bug, the pokemon shivered before swallowing a breath. No, dashie had played really good and he should do that too! Flicking out his tail in his best attempt to look like his freind, he knew he couldnt bite like the canine could but he could run and bump like him, so he tried" Nevermind the crystal horn sticking out of his head, and how that tended to hurt things it hit.

"You raise a good point, and having more people who like us or owe us favors can never be a bad thing. Sure, why not, i'll spend a few weekends in their bars and give you names and what not" the blonde replied to his co-worker, watching as the "play battle" began and smiling softly. He didnt expect to win these fights, and wasnt going to push his pokemon to be better in them against lucas, but it felt nice to win all the same..
