Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
He'd come here to visit a friend. One who bailed on him at the last minute for meeting up, though that honestly came at no surprise to Luka who was used to having unreliable friends. Probably hung over, he thought idly, sitting on top of a damaged, rusting washing machine that someone had stripped and abandoned out there.
When Luka was in high school, he'd visited Mossrock City from time to time to see some friends who'd moved after middle school. They'd all been delinquents, an he was currently chilling at an old dump site that his friends had frequented, dubbed the 'hangout spot' for their lack of imagination. His friend's parents were much more observant and astute than his own, so getting out had been a must back then, even if just to hang, though he had plenty of memories of sneaking drinks out here, and breaking the bottles in entertaining ways when they were done with them. There was still the shattered shell of an old TV lying out there where they'd spent an entire night trying to break through the thick screen with their empty beers.
Now it was the perfect spot to check out his new acquisition; one he'd hardly gotten a chance to entertain, as it was every bit as stubborn and frustrating as Feral had warned him it would be.
He released Mink first, the Mankey getting his bearings before peering up at him from his perch atop the discarded home appliance. As aggressive and hot-headed as Mink was, he'd taken orders from Luka enough to look to him as a guide. Of course they fought from time to time, but overall Mink listened.
Instead of giving him outright instructions, Luka took out the second Pokeball. With a tap, it grew in his hands. "This one doesn't like to listen," Luka explained, "It's irritating. Can you help with that?" Otherwise he was no used to him, and that would be a shame, given how 'powerful' had been one of the descriptors Feral had used, alongside all of the challenging ones.
Without further explanation, he dropped the Pokeball, which fell open with a burst of red light. The Grookey shook himself off, all four legs splayed in a stance that was clearly ready for anything as it took in its surroundings. Its ears went back when it spotted Mink, piecing it together quickly when those eyes found Luka next. The two hadn't met yet, though he honestly didn't give them much time to chat. The young man popped open his Pokedex for reference, playing with it for a moment before locating the Grookey's information.
Scratch and Growl were self-explanatory. "Hammer arm?" he repeated curiously, "Let's see that." At this, the little green simian bared its sharp little teeth. Half a second later, it was thrown to the ground with a Low Kick from Mink, who bared his teeth in return. The Mankey was inherently bigger, looming over the little green Grookey as it stumbled back to his feet, admittedly looking much more wary this time around, though no less hostile. He hissed, the hair raising at the base of his tail, his eyes sharply on the assailing Mankey.
"Hammer arm." Luka tried again. The Grookey Growled instead, and the Mankey lunged. This time, the scrap lasted longer. A ball of cream and green, using claws and teeth on top of attempting to land proper moves. Even though Kaz was smaller, he was vicious, and when they separated again, Mink was a little out of breath. The smaller of the two was a little worse for wear as well, though he looked no more compliant. Neither was on the verge of standing down, it seemed.
Luka leaned back, pleased at least that his Mankey understood the assignment. He was more than happy to leave this task to his fight-thirsty companion, and he had all day, if that's what it took.

[nospaces] [attr="class","sidelongcredits"] [attr="class","sidelong"] [attr="class","bodybox"] [attr="class","text-space icon"] Dave had learned from his time in Castelia exactly the sorts of places to go when you wanted to lay low and drop some heat from getting caught doing something stupid or hide your beers for when you ditched class with the boys to go hooping and hollering and breaking shit without getting accused of "disturbing the peace" or whatever nonsense the Popo wanted to sick you with. The back alleys and under the bridges were a no go, that was asking to get shanked by some guy in a trench coat and dark shades for getting in on some real nasty business.[break][break] But abandoned parking lots and especially the city dumps were a gold mine of old abandoned or trashed stuff. If you were lucky you even found something still usable, and if you weren't, there was broken stuff that no one minded getting broken even more from some rough housing. Unlike private property garbage, which got policed for dumpster diving, no one could give a rats ass to patrol these places either, so it was pretty much free reign unless you ran into a trash man dropping stuff off.[break][break] It took Dave a bit to find his way around Mossrock. Castelia was all straight paved roads and grid layouts, with several parallel major streets making it easy to navigate by, but Mossrock was all winding roads to accommodate for the green trees and more "eco-friendly" structure or whatever they said to sound smart about it. Still, he'd been dropping by pretty often since ferries between islands was a bit expensive and the plaza games were a good way to get some pocket change and another chance at a free Pokémon, so he was starting to figure it out.[break][break] Hopping the fence to get in wasn't too hard either as Dave peeked around for a second to be sure no one was gonna spot him crossing into the property before he threw his bag over and dug his fingers between the chain link to scramble up and follow. Landing on the dirt, the boy glanced around for a second with miscolored eyes and adjusted his cap before giving a lazy crooked smile and reaching for the most scuffed of his Pokeballs and popping it open.[break][break] "Aight Ruth, you know the drill" Dave called out, glancing over at the bug as she instinctively took in her surroundings. "Go scavenge. Bring back anything shiny or that looks like money, and eat up if there's something edible." The little poison type could eat just about anything as far as he could figure. Rotted fruit, spoiled milk, hell, prolly even carrion. Not that he'd seen her do the last, but he's sure little Pokémon got caught under stuff and died out here sometimes, or got thrown away inside of boxes when their owners didn't take care of them. Wasn't his business anyhow, and if she got fed without him paying for it, all the better.[break][break] Dave didn't really figure on being able to do the same with the other little mite he was packing, but at least Ruth was easy enough to take care of. [break][break] One thing Dave could appreciate about Mossrock though - the whole forest "one with nature" vibe the city was trying to sell meant there was a lot of smoke shops and weed places. Like one every block kinda lot. Gotta keep the atmosphere chill and friendly, and it was all nice and legal for the cops too. Now stealing wasn't legal, but that's why Dave was taking it out to the dump to try it so no one could go asking for his green card and get all bent outta shape over nothing.[break][break] Though Dave had only started to walk and swing his retrieved backpack around in front of him to dig through it when he paused and stopped, hearing what sounded like a screeching sound of some kind. Not the loudest, but it was kinda close, and real angry like - some kind of Pokémon battle cry. Oh shit, was there some kids hosting a fighting ring out here or something? That kinda stuff happened when dumb parents gave them Pokémon too early or they caught patrats out on the street; the adults always say Pokémon aren't just for battling, but every kid wants to know whose got the best and strongest one and let em go wild on each other anyways.[break][break] Dave certainly did, why else have a Pokémon if not to fight?[break][break] He definitely didn't waste any time trying to pick a path through the broken down junk and garbage towards the noise, hearing scruffling and yelps of pain before finally peeking around a corner and seeing two small Pokémon. One of them kinda reminded him of a Pansage, the other looked similar but cream and brown and a bit more of a round body and thin limbs. And oh boy were they both going at it - they musta been pretty similar in strength with how much effort it was taking on either side. [break][break] Wolf whistling as the two finally broke apart a bit and started posing and growling at each other again, Dave gave an encouraging "Yo, get him little guy! F*** him up!" and a sorta double fingered gesture, halfway between a wave and a finger gun. There was a guy sitting up on some old junked up washing machine watching, dark hair and eyes - about Dave's age he reckoned, and after a quick glance over then around to see if it was just him he'd lazily wave, shifting fully into view. "Those two both yours man or one of them like wild or something?" He'd pipe up to the guy, a greeting of sorts, vaguely. Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
The wolf whistling got everyone's attention. Luka was startled, but barely reacted. He wasn't doing anything wrong, and the sort of people who found themselves in places like these weren't the sort to give a damn even if he was.
Kaz puffed his chest out, clearly identifying himself as the 'little guy', and Luka laughed. While he certainly didn't hope the Grookey came out on top, Luka could understand the impulse to vote for the underdog. And there was an underdog, even if their levels were matched. Mink was a more experienced fighter, albeit an unconventional one. Luka had used him for many underground fights for some quick cash and glory. And Mink was simply bigger, giving him a little bit of an advantage.
"They're both mine," he confirmed, "One of them's a stubborn brat, but they're both still mine." A sideways, equally smug as amused glance at Kaz, who bared his teeth. This prompted another pounce on Mink's part, and the two were at it again.
Luka slid off of his garbage throne to properly greet the kid. He'd never seen him before, even though one look at him and another at their surroundings could tell Luka they probably fell into similar crowds. "What unsavory reason has you loitering at the dump?" His was obvious. Pokemon fights were one thing. They were structured and heavily monitored. What was going on right now was reckless, and feral. Should the wrong person witness it, he'd probably get an earful.

[nospaces] [attr="class","sidelongcredits"] [attr="class","sidelong"] [attr="class","bodybox"] [attr="class","text-space icon"] The smaller of the two Pokémon puffed his chest out at Dave's whoop, seeming to earn a chuckle from the other guy and a toothed grin from Dave a bit. He seemed scrappy enough to be fun to watch at least, and it was hardly his Pokémon, so hardly his problem either way. More fun to watch them really go at it, rather then seeing the weaker party just roll over and show their belly - when it was a spectator sport at least. [break][break] Chuckling at the other guy's statement about them, Dave followed his gaze as the two, one of them clearly giving a defiant look in return before the vicious cycle of fighting resumed again. "Sounds like it's more the stubborn cuz they don't listen to you then stubborn cuz they don't like giving in type." He'd comment wryly, noting the fact that at least one of them didn't seem too keen on the guy despite him claiming he owned both. "Still kinda feral or something?" He'd quip, vaguely curious, but more almost just commentary on it then anything.[break][break] They'd hopped down to more properly greet Dave, and he feigned an exaggeratedly mocking look of being offended at the question poised, scoffing slightly. "Woah now, who says it has to be unsavory for me to be around a place like this? That's kinda ruuude dontcha think?" Affecting a jabbing tone, he for a moment paused, making sure to look pretty defensive. Then a smile crept across his lips on one side.[break][break] "Personally after all, I don't think there's nothing wrong with what I'm doing here." Snapping his fingers as Dave made a finger gun motion pointing up near his jaw, he winked, going from seemingly defensive to almost kinda playful and laid back. "And assuming you ain't some kinda narc, you ain't gonna either I'd assume" he'd continue, moving to take out a plastic baggie with some leafy green balls of a dried plant in it. "After all, I think I've got more then enough for two if you cool like that" [break][break] Throwing his free arm around the guy's shoulders as Dave stepped forward and then turned into the action to be facing the same direction and tilt his head over to him, he grinned a bit lazily. "And if you ain't then no problem man, we never even met. I'm not looking for trouble after all, just a relaxing time."[attr="class","headerbox"] made by gimmick [googlefont=Hind:400,700][googlefont=Poppins:400,700] [newclass=.sidelongcredits]width: min-content; margin: 30px auto; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelongcredits>a]display: block; text-align:right; margin-top: 4px; font:700 7px/10px sans-serif; letter-spacing:.8px;text-decoration:none;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong]width: 520px; position: relative; display: grid; grid-template-columns: 1fr 50px; grid-template-areas: ' bodybox headerbox'; background: #f9f9f9; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 2px 4px 0 rgba(0,0,0,.15); box-shadow: 0 2px 4px 0 rgba(0,0,0,.15); --accentRGB: 53, 129, 204; --accent: #3581cc [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .headerbox] background: linear-gradient(-180deg, rgba(var(--accentRGB), 1), rgba(var(--accentRGB), .45)); grid-area: headerbox; width: 50px; display: flex; justify-content: center; padding-top: 40px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .bodybox] padding: 30px 0px 30px 30px; background: #f9f9f9; grid-area: bodybox; display: grid; grid-column-gap: 30px; grid-template-columns: auto 1fr; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .border-box] padding: 8px; border: 1px solid #dcdcdc; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .image-space] width: 413px; height: 525px; overflow: hidden; background: lightgray; filter: brightness(1.25) contrast(.65) saturate(2); -webkit-transition: all 1s linear; -moz-transition: all 1s linear; -o-transition: all 1s linear; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .image-space:hover] filter: brightness(1.35) contrast(.75) saturate(2);[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .image-space::after] content: ' '; background: #666; opacity: .25; position: absolute; width: 413px; height: 525px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .text-space] height: 525px; overflow: auto; padding-right: 40px; margin-top: 8px; text-align: left; font: 13px/18px 'Hind'; -webkit-text-size-adjust: none; color: #000;[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .text-space.icon] height: auto; overflow: hidden; padding-right: 0; margin: 0;[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong img] padding: 10px; border: 1px solid #dcdcdc; float: left; margin: 0 20px 10px 0; max-width: 150px; filter: brightness(1) contrast(.75) saturate(.8); -webkit-transition: all 1s linear; -moz-transition: all 1s linear; -o-transition: all 1s linear;[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong img:hover]filter: brightness(1.1) contrast(.8) saturate(1);[/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong b] font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px; color: var(--accent); [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong i] font-weight: 400; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong u] text-decoration-style: dotted; text-decoration-color: var(--accent); text-decoration-thickness: 2px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong .text-space br] content: ''; padding: 0 0 6px; display: block; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong h1] font: 700 12px/12px 'Poppins'; text-transform: uppercase; letter-spacing: 1.8px; color: white; writing-mode: vertical-rl; font-size: 15px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong h1 a]font: inherit; text-decoration: none; color: inherit !important; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong h2, .sidelong h3] margin: 0; font: inherit [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong ::-webkit-scrollbar] -webkit-appearance: none !important; background: transparent; width: 4px !important; border: 0 !important; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong ::-webkit-scrollbar-horizontal] width: 4px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong ::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb] background: rgba(var(--accentRGB), .5) !important; border: 0 !important; [/newclass] [newclass=.sidelong ::-webkit-scrollbar-track] background: #f9f9f9 !important; border: 0 !important [/newclass]
