Passing across the uneven bushes was not easy, well, for the human. Those with tails and extra limbs would find it easier to climb over short branches and hop from leaves to unsteady ground and keep moving, of course for someone with less limbs and balance a little less steady, it was like trying to wander through long grass without being able to see your feet and add in the extra vine to try and trip you along the way. All the same it was not a long section of the path and there was nothing sharp within the mess trying to trip and bring people, and pokemon, down, and at the end of it, something different. The path kept going, it bent around to the right in fact, but there was also a pokemon laying there on the ground. It seemed to be wrapped in something akin to a fur coat, or maybe a glove, and had a vine wrapped around the outfit, around one foot, and around the opposite paw which seemed to be keeping it in place and giving the pokemon the appearance of a blue furry worm Your team has found the "pup"

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
This path was every bit as annoying to walk down as Luka expected it to be. The pushes were high, almost too high to properly get over, and they caught on his clothes right and left. He cursed as a particularly spiky one pierced his clothes and clawed his inner thigh. "I thought haunted mazes were supposed to be fun," he grumbled, finding this to be tedious and a little painful. How kids with much smaller legs than his own would fair getting through this, he couldn't even guess, and wasn't that what these sorts of events were made for?
Mink had absolutely no issue. The Pokemon could jump and swing and scramble much quicker than Luka ever could. Kaz was smaller, but just as nimble. Plus, she could squeeze into smaller spaces that Mink, and certainly Luka, couldn't manage.
His Pokemon had spotted the creature first. Mink took his time to inspect this one a lot closer before going straight into fight maze. "What are you supposed to be?" he asked, prodding at the little creature with a foot. Gently. Which for Mink, took a lot of care.
"That's not a pup," Kaz speculated as he finally got near, "It's a..." His eyes narrowed. "Worm. A fuzzy worm."
"What'd you guys find?" Luka was falling behind enough that he had to shout the words up to them. It wasn't his fault, having awkward human legs and an equally awkward human body that needed to balance each time he carefully stepped over some brush.

The ball of fur and vines was clearly trying to move, wriggling across the ground a little before it heard voices and there was a small shifting in the back of the creature and it rolled over, head facing upwards and a wide smile on its face. "Hi! You found me! You gotta take me back to my pack leader!" came an excited squeal of a comment before the pokemon glanced between the trio. "I didnt get very far,im meant to be hiding further up but something back there made a loud noise so i tried to hurry back. Got one of the vines stuck in my costumes, now i cant...really move" the pokemon admitted a moment later to the question, wriggling in place a little as he laughed softly. "No! I am! I am the pup! I promise! Take me back and you get one of the keys!" he tried to insist, managing only to get fur in his mouth for the volume he tried to speak at and beginning to have to try and spit it out. Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
The enthusiasm from the Cyndaquil was infectious, and both monkey-types hopped up and down excitedly to learn their search had been a success.
If 'the pup' were any smaller, it would have been slung over one of the monkey's shoulders and dragged back through the brush. Both of the Pokemon wanted credit for having found it, though it seemed they were a bit too late. As they tried to figure out who could be the first to tell Luka, the boy finally caught sight of the worm-like thing wriggling on the ground.
"Is that it?" he asked, "Is that the pup?"
With a reproachful and slightly threatening look at Kaz, Mink darted off towards his trainer to confirm what he'd found. Luka wasn't all that far behind now, and he sped up the pace when the Mankey hopped excitedly ahead of him, confirming his theory. Though admittedly it didn't seem like Luka gave one iota who found the thing, as long as it got found. "Great!" The praise, if it could be called that, was untargeted and unspecific, and both the Pokemon looked a dash disappointed.
He scrambled the last little bit through the scrub and was a little out of breath as he scooped up the little bundle of fabric and Pokemon. A look of excitement and determination flashed in his gaze, though that excitement visibly dwindled when he looked back the way he'd come. Now he was going to have to do it all over again! With his hands full. More colorful expletives left Luka's lips as he stomped back over to the first bush. His Pokemon were too small to ask to carry the Cyndaquil.
"How did you even get this far," Luka grumbled to the little Pokemon as he awkwardly made his way back through the brambles and brush. "Wriggling around as you were." He occasionally had to hand the bundle to Mink, who could hold it up if he stood in one place, but couldn't carry it far. It made it easier to get back, but only marginally so.
Finally, he was out of the brush again and headed back towards where he'd found the boy.
Off to return the pup!

Oakley
| Being picked up did not free the pokemon from his issues, though it did allow him to flail a little in greeting to the other pokemon and human who held him as they started back and he gave a little snickering noise as the question came to him. "A bunch of trainers built this maze, grew it out and put traps and little shocks in it for everyone" the pokemon explained, small back legs kicking with excitement. "I helped!" The squeak was high pitched and proud, the pokemons skin growing warm for a moment before he seemed to quickly catch himself. "Ice cream and popsicles, snowball fights and cold baths" he muttered quickly, the heat of the pokemon beginning to cool down after a few repeats of this, and a little more walking, the group was sprung upon from the tree line by a fur coated Oakley once more. "Ahh, my young charge! A fair exchange then my good adventur....trainer" the boy exclaimed, quickly catching himself as he spoke before he giggling at his slip up. "Im even starting to sound like a Kaitos" he said with a giggle, the fire type in the trainers grasp giggling in unison with the boy as he held out one hand for the pokemon, and the other reached out with the small square of green plastic in it. |

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
It wasn't all that impressive that Luka was happy. Luka had a tendency to be happy, especially when he was doing something fun and interesting, with a tiny bit of challenge to it. But it was impressive that his Pokemon were in relatively good spirits, the cute little faire irresistible even the most stubborn, grumpy Pokemon it seemed. It helped that Luka had two competitive Pokemon that loved to win. All three of them shared in that.
The Cyndaquil's kicking wasn't particularly helpful as Luka carefully stepped over bushes. "Stop that, I will drop you," he cautioned, though there was some humor behind the words.
Though some of that playfulness died when he felt the creature start to warm up. He really would drop it. Straight into a spikey bush, if he needed to, to avoid getting burned. But it seemed the little Pokemon had everything under control. "Icicles, snowflakes, glacial melt," he threw in helpfully, able to pick up what the fire-type was trying to do.
"Steel types!" Mink added in helpfully. It was his favorite type of Pokemon to punch, "And Kaz's mood."
The Grookey rolled his eyes but didn't grace the comment with a response. Soon enough, Luka was handing the bundle over, and in exchange was getting the little green slip they'd seen earlier. "Thanks!" They were a forth of the way done! At least... they thought.
It took the combination of the Cyndaquil and the boy to make the Grookey realize why Oakley looked so familiar. The recognition was like a jolt of electricity through him, making his hair stand on end again near the base of his tail. And instead of making it more apparent, he darted off, further down the path they would have to go. As if there was a possibility that recognition on the kid's part would risk him getting confined again, bossed around and babied as he was before. Even if Luka was difficult to deal with in his own ways, he was at least very permissive. Kaz hadn't had those levels of freedom in the lab.
"Kaz!" Luka called after him, startled. But he interpreted it as impatience, and honestly the boy was more than happy to put the kid and his Pokemon in the rear view in order to progress. So he ended the exchange brusquely and ran after him. Mink took up the back at first, but then quickly bounced past his trainer. "We are not doing the bushes again," Luka announced as they returned back to the crossroads. Three different directions. One a dead end, and the other he knew continued. He might even have to come back to it later, but he wasn't in the mood right now. It was the muddy path now.
He rolled up his pant legs in preparation. Mink cared very little as he padded out into the wet mud. Kaz, on the other hand, sniffed it and looked less-than-impressed. But he was not one to admit defeat over a little mud, so he stepped out into it as well. Unlike the Mankey, Kaz was most comfortable on four legs, making the experience inherently less comfortable. Luka came in third, carrying his shoes and socks so that his bare feet squished into the mud. He wished he had a water-type that could rinse them all off when they were done, but no such luck.
Despite neither Pokemon wanting to be the first to complain, Kaz couldn't help himself. "It stinks," he protested, his nose wrinkling in disgust as they slowly made their way across the mud.
The team takes the mud path!

A WILD POKEMON APPEARED Gender - Male / Ability - Iron Barbs / Level - Something / Moves - Power Whip, Harden, Curse, Rock Climb, Tackle, Acid SprayAs the group attempted the mud, they quickly found that it was not exactly mud. Whatever had been in mixed here had made the mud much closer to glue and it not only sucked in any foot that tried to brave its depths had a very hard time leaving it. None the less, the stretch of the real muddy area was a lot shorter than it seemed to be. On the other side, the mud became something akin to shallow brown water, about deep enough to cover move shoes but that was it. However, hanging on the other side of the muddy path, a series of chains and ropes were hanging down from the branches of the trees grown over the small area. The issue was that within these were bodies, clearly meant to be fake or something like it, but one of them was being nudged by a large shape, big confused eyes were nudging the plastic form against what seemed to be a target resting on the end of this path. Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Arceus, this might worse.
The mud seemed to suck him in. More than any mud should. Each step was a mission in itself, a wet sucking sound emitting every time he managed to pull his foot free. Luka wasn't a weakling by any means, but he was tired by the time he was only halfway through, leaning forward and resting his hands on his knees for a breather. Mink wasn't struggling as hard as Kaz was. He was older, bigger, and only had to submerge his feet whereas Kaz was on all fours.
A renewed spirit surged through him when he caught sight of a Pokemon on the other side. Though the closer he got, the more he realized the chances of catching this Pokemon was dwindling. It was a big Pokemon. And one glance at his Pokedex told him it was a final evolution.
Even if it was a steel-type, he didn't think it wise to send out his punch-happy pokemon, Mink. Honestly, a part of him wondered if he should try to skirt the outside and avoid the Pokemon altogether. But the kid he met had talked about the Pokemon in the maze. They were wild, or actors. Either way, they had a chance of getting him another pass.
Something about this one seemed more confused than hostile, leading him to believe it was wild. It was looking at the fake bodies with eyes that he couldn't decipher between confusion or concern.
Mink was the first one out of the mud. It had grown wetter and easier to traverse, but now the fighting-type was coated in it up to the bottom of his fluffy brown coat. Kaz was still mucking through it when Luka joined his first Pokemon out. The three of them were staring at the big spiky Pokemon, watching. "Kaz. Go talk to it."
It was the first order given of the Grookey, and he did not take it well. He started to get bowed up immediately. Mink took a step towards him, clearly used to this routine. He'd started to enjoy fighting the Grookey when it grew too unruly. Mostly, he liked reminding the little grass-type who was boss. "Why not? You scared?" He hoped the Grookey said something stupid. He hoped he got the permission to attack it.
Unlike normal outings, Luka couldn't have his Pokemon injured this early on. "No," he interjected, "I need you both. Are you gonna do it or not?"
Kaz's fur, which had started to raise defensively, flattened again. He was confused, not having been given an option before. "I'm not scared," he returned stubbornly, eyes narrowed, "And I want the prize. So fine." And without another word, he scampered off towards the Ferroseed. His pace admittedly slowed when he got close, that nervousness trickled in. "Hey!" he called out to him, "Hey, what are you doing?"
Kaz confronts the wild Ferroseed!

A WILD POKEMON APPEARED Gender - Male / Ability - Iron Barbs / Level - Something / Moves - Power Whip, Harden, Curse, Rock Climb, Tackle, Acid SprayThe steel type seemed not to focus on those moving closer to it, in fact it wasnt until a voiced sounded that its eyes ever left the body it was poking at and turned to the small shape on the floor. "There's no where else to go, but look, this growth, its like its making a human" the pokemon said in a slow voice, moving down the end of one of its own vines and lining it up. The length of the vine hung down about the same length of the chains keeping the hanging body up, the ends of the hands of the fake human were hanging down too a little like the prongs on the end of the steel type and it seemed to look over these factors before looking back to the other grass type. "Here i was, just looking for something to crush for dinner, and i walk in to the farm to find all this. Its just..quite..." the pokemon moaned out, its voice dragging over the words as its focused moved back to the bodies again, and then, what could now be seen to be a fake knife covered target. Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Kaz had been born in captivity. He knew a fake, plastic human when he saw one, and these ones were definitely fake. But it was becoming clear that the Ferroseed was fooled by the decorations. As a fellow grass-type, Kaz tried to imagine how horrifying it would be to find a tree that sprouted humans. Pretty grotesque, even for a haunted maze. He was, admittedly, a little spooked at the mention of crushing something for dinner, but he kept his wits about him. Luka and Mink were watching, after all.
"Hey," the little Grookey said when he noticed the large Pokemon's attention waning. The Grookey darted over to the tree and scaled it with relative ease. It was a monkey, after all. The creature planted itself just over the limb that held the body in question. He was fast. Faster than this Ferroseed, and he thought about that as his mind repeatedly tried to remind him that this creature, whatever it was, was hungry. "They're not real, you know. The humans at the end of those... growths."
Kaz had spotted the target before coming up here, but from this vantage point, it was much easier to see. Maybe that was what they had to do? "It's a game. For the humans," he further explained, trying to route his path towards the branch that held up the target. But before he moved, he connected eyes with Luka, staring for a good while before the boy noticed, and flicked his head for them to join.
It felt nice, giving the orders for once. And it was one thing when Luka followed it, tentatively stepping close, but an honest thrill came to life in Kaz's chest when Mink had to follow it too.
Luka had never seen a Pokemon like this before, not that that was saying much. He was still very ignorant when it came to what Pokemon were out there. This one looked cool, and unsettlingly large. "Did you figure it out, Kaz?" he asked, still keeping his distance but much closer.
Mink, who was eyeing the Pokemon, tried not to care if they were getting alarmingly close to those giant steel prongs at the end of its vines.

"Oh? But...why?" the pokemon asked, slowly turning its head to look to the other male at his words, "It does not offer food, it does not gain a mate and its sure not keeping their lands safe. So why waste the effort? The time?" the pokemon questioned, seemingly equal parts curious and confused as it spoke. "What is the point?" the pokemon asked a moment later, looking back to the colors behind the grown humans and their plants, and then back to the pokemon again. It gave a slow creeping smile as it thought, looking back to the human with the green pokemon. "Does your human play the game? Do we hang your human until half it disappears?" the pokemon questioned, looking to the 2 other sets of hanging legs, and then slowly turning to the one pair of arms and its bang covered head. Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Kaz, who was just over the hanging body in question, flinched when the dual-typed Pokemon brushed the chains, making them clank and grind in an unsettling way in the otherwise relatively quiet maze. "I don't know," he growled, his tone curt only because the noise in conjunction with everything else was unsettling to him. Once the rattling waned a bit, so too did the tension in his muscles. "Humans are weird. They always have been. I think..." He thought back on the things Luka had said before they entered the maze. Specifically, what he'd looked to get out of it. A little unwisely, he explained, "I think they like to get scared."
Luka didn't exactly like the way the Pokemon smiled. It was a creepy sort of smile, and it looked at him when it did it. The boy's eyes narrowed defensively, wishing he could understand the thing.
Kaz understood completely. At first, he felt shocked. That's not what he meant! But... well, honestly he had been nothing but tormented for the majority of his time with Luka. His tail curled around his paws, his gaze lingering for just a moment too long.
"What? No!" If Kaz wasn't going to protest it, Mink would. And he would certainly remember that he had to later, his eyes growing positively lethal when they looked upon the little grass-type. "You can't hang a real human unless you want it to die!" Obviously. And even though it was obvious Kaz had no sense of loyalty to his trainer, Mink certainly did.
"What are you going on about?" Luka asked, annoyed at being left out of the conversation. He could tell what Mink was saying a lot more than the other two, though at least Kaz's mannerisms were similar. "Do we need that target?" He pointed in the direction of it, clearly having no idea how at-risk he truly was. His focus was entirely on the challenge at hand. He continued to mull over his options, "There's knives in it. Is that a prop or are we supposed to do that ourselves?"

Thinking? "Humans make little sense, all this effort, and for nothing but a negative outcome" the pokemon mused after a long pause, smirking as the other pokemon seemed to grow angry at the comments and ideas being offered. "But this one is, and this one has been left here" the steel type mused, that same grin growing back over its face as it looked over the human once more. "We take it, hang it here, and leave it here with eyes upon it. I think that is what happened, and so, what should keep happening, surely?" the pokemon mused, slowly lowering itself from its perch until its body hit the ground. The human spoke now, the pokemon smirking and nodding to its words, pressing itself back against the trees behind itself to allow the human closer, lifting one "arm" to wave towards the knives, and hang in the air between the human and the pokemon itself. It seemed they disliked his idea, but, the human stepped back and away from him as he moved to give it a chance to get closer, it wasnt stupid at least. "Look, im still hungry and all this wasnt here last time I was, so, i'll be taking something now. And proving my theory, because, I can" the pokemon moaned out, the tone slow as he moved himself to land entirely on the ground, two vines reaching out either side of himself as the middle one held himself up. He reached forwards, trying to move a vine around either side of the human, not with a lot of pace but with no where but the mud to go back to, the grass type didnt think he needed to rush.
