Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Luka had come for the other festivities. Honestly, he hadn't even known about the maze. But as soon as he saw it, it looked like a fun challenge. And those who'd helped set it up, or had heard from those who had claimed it was haunted.
While looking over the apple bobbing and normal festivities, Luka had a hard time believing it would be be actually difficult. He'd been in corn mazes before for the fall season, and had been sorely disappointed at how simple they'd been. A few turns here and there, the 'walls' thin enough to peek through if you got stuck... This one looked like it could be different. It looked bigger, and it had the added bonus of being scary, or at least that's what he'd heard. Luka was an adrenaline junkie at heart. And while he wouldn't exactly call himself brave by any means, he also wouldn't be fooled by cheap tricks and jump scares. He wanted to feel actually afraid. He wanted the rush of adrenaline that came with true terror, and he wanted to overcome it and come out on top in the end.
Those were lofty dreams he realized, for a haunted berry maze. How scary could it really be? He expected some ghost Pokemon here and there, but little else. At least if he did spot Pokemon, he could potentially battle them and train up his team. And it would be fun and something new, if the maze was even slightly challenging.
And so Luka purchased a ticket and walked inside one of the entrances, feeling excited and ready for a challenge. He had both of his Pokemon out, mostly for their eyes. Kaz was still an incredibly difficult one to manage, but Mink kept him in line as best he could.

As you wandered through the maze, a series of cut-out shapes of pokemon in scary costumes as well as what are clearly meant to be "typical" halloween monsters and beasties hang from branches of the trees around out, pop out of the bushes as you pass and glow hidden away in the deeper parts of the maze. Scary noises of ghost types wailing drift through the plants as well as a low fog across the ground, though any steps taken quickly disperse it.
Its clear a lot of pokemon, and people, came together to make this little event possible but the maze is at first, very simple. The path does not divert for a while, only a few pop-outs here and there and the odd scary noise on a blind corner until, you turn one more, and find the path splits here.
WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE? -

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
It was almost funny how similar the two Pokemon Luka obtained were. Both were hot-headed, and eager to fight. That meant neither balked at the occasional unsettling noise, nor did anything short of hiss at, or threaten some of the cut-outs that spooked them. Though once they deemed them props, they were ignored. They were also a dash competitive with one another. Whenever one got startled, it would quickly glance at another one to see if he noticed.
It was all very amusing for Luka, who trailed in after them. It was a long straightway for a while, but finally they happened upon a split in the path. Mink wanted to go left, and Kaz wanted to go right. The two Pokemon's fur raised in frustration at one another, and they already looked on the verge of going at each other's throats. "Alright, alright." Luka settled them, but barely. He studied the two directions for clues, but came up short.
After some consideration, Luka thought it best to cater to the most unruly of the two. Perhaps it would put Kaz in a more compliant mood. "Let's go right." This seemed like an instant betrayal to Mink, who he'd had longer. Luka didn't feel the need to explain himself to the little Mankey, nor did he try. The creature stomped angrily but eventually conceded, trailing reluctantly after them. Kaz bounced ahead, pleased.
Luka goes right! -x-

Oakley
| Oakley grinned to himself as he felt the small buzz in his pocket, someone had walked in the direction of the little he was meant to be hiding on and he giggled to himself. No, wait, he needed to keep quiet! Sucking in his breath, he pressed his hands over his face as he heard someone begin to walk along the main path a little distance from him, wait, several someones.
They had pokemon! They had to! They seemed to be moving fast too, but all the same, the boy kept quiet until he was sure they had passed before slipping out from within the berry trees and allowing his giggle to break free. A moment later, the oddly green edged attempt at what was clearly a lycanroc werewolf costume began to rush up behind the other trainer, howling as best as a teen boy can while trying not to burst in to laughter.

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Luka's Pokemon were just short of feral. They'd come that way, and he hadn't tried all that hard to curb that ferocity. That lack of control didn't come back to bite him as often as it should, but it certainly did now.
While he might have been able to easily identify the kid as just that- a kid- his Pokemon were not so quick on the draw. The moment Oakley jumped out at them, Mink was lunging at the opportunity. It didn't help that he felt like he had something to prove after Luka had chosen Kaz's direction just moments before. The Low Kick swung to take out the boy's legs, the Mankey screaming in a wild way.
Kaz was a little less quick on the draw. He puffed up like a cat, the hair standing on all ends along his back and his tail, his teeth bared in a Growl. Claws were bared, and he started to lunge at the assailant for a Scratch as well, before Luka's voice finally interjected.
"Stop!" God, his Pokemon were gonna get him kicked out. It was his first thought, the second only finally addressing the welfare of the kid. He jogged forward, shoving a sheepish, yet still quite peeved Mink to the side as he passed. "Are you alright?" Team Rocket or not, Luka wasn't a savage. He didn't want his Pokemon to pummel a kid into the ground.
Mink didn't look guilty in the least. He hopped from one foot to the other, his eyes angry. "Stupid kids shouldn't jump out at unsuspecting Pokemon!"
Kaz, who hadn't actually succeeded in attacking the kid looked above it all. He was very aware that Mink had been too busy to know what he'd been doing during the battle, making it easy for him to pretend he'd done any better. His fur was back down and he looked completely composed. "Maybe if you ever stopped to think first..." he tutted hypocritically, making even Luka roll his eyes.

Oakley
| Oakley went down quick and fast as his over excited and stumbling kegs were swept out from under him, hitting the ground of the maze with a loud thud and a small whine before he tried to sit up, only to begin to see stars. "Im a performer! Im one of the characters! Attack again and i have to report you!! he quickly stuttered out, his eyes trying to focus on the shape in front of himself but finding that it was largely just a blur of colors. Managing to just about sit up, the boy realized maybe he had been a little too excited for his first scare and probably running up from behind was a bad idea. Next time he would try the front, let someone see him and try to ran at them. By this point, the boy could feel the pain in the back of his head and moved a paw covered hand to rub at it. No blood, but now, voices. He turned to the figure in front of himself, noting they were still blurry but the voice seemed human, while the other two did not. "I'll be alright, i guess you do have a point, this is my first year being able to take part in these events, so i guess i got a bit...." he explained before he quickly gasped, covering his mouth with a paw. In the next moment, he coughed and tried to growl out his next words, clearly having rehearsed them. "I came to this maze with my pup to try and spooky...spook people but my son got lost in the maze. Find him, and i will give you one of the passes needed to reach the prize in the center!" he rattled off, pushing his paw inside his costume and pulling out a small green square with a tick on it. |

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Thankfully, they only attacked once. Luka felt immediate relief when he heard the protest and threat, glad he wasn't being kicked out already. He knew even if it sucked, he'd feel irritated watching other people enjoying the maze when he was explicitly banned from it. He probably wouldn't listen to the ban anyways, but that would mean difficulty winning whatever prize came at the end of all of this. The satisfaction of winning would be enough though, he supposed.
The kid didn't look... great. His eyes were a little unfocused, like he couldn't quite see them. But he seemed to bounce back quickly, as most kids did. He sat up, and seemed to take Mink's criticism in stride.
"Over-eager?" Luka finished for him, giving his Pokemon- both of them- a pointed look for their own over-eagerness. Though Luka was honestly hardly one to talk. He was the epitome of act first and ask questions later. He reached a hand out to help the boy up, but the kid jerked his hand to his mouth, and Luka dropped his own in confusion.
Ah, the event. Luka took a few seconds to process the task at hand, his eyes drifting down to the paper with the tick. It would be so easy to have Mink steal that. He was just one Covet away. Then, they wouldn't have to go through the trouble. But Luka felt like he was already pushing his luck, and there was no way that kid was forgetting his Mankey any time soon after it had nearly pummeled him.
He was still mulling the thought over as he asked, "So we find the pup, and come back here?" Would he have to try and remember what paths he took? If this maze was as complicated as he'd heard, that sounded difficult. Again, he glanced down at the papers in the boy's hands. "Are those the passes?"

Oakley
| Oakley Oakley noticed after a few more focused seconds that the trainer had been offering him a hand and he gave a sheepish smile. "Im not meant to give more hints, they know i'll talk too much and be too helpful, but thank you" he replied to the other male as he took the hand, moving to stand up and wobbling a little before he slipped the small silicone slip back in to his outfit. "Oh that? Sorta, they pair up ive been told. There are 4 you can win for succeeding the tasks offered to you, in any way you see fit. Well, depending on who you find. Like if its a wild pokemon, please try to get them out safely as we did warn them but not all listen. Or if its spooked, or aggressive, subdue it and then leave it be and you'll be monitored and given a pass too" the boy explained, then sighed as he caught himself rambling. "Im sure you read the rules on the way in, mother was right, i do talk too much when im excited" he added a moment later, rubbing the back of his head as he spoke. |

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
Luka listened to the explanation, taking any little snippet of information the kid offered up, especially because the boy had clearly been told multiple times that he overshares. Luka could take some oversharing right about now, eager to win. There were a few things that caught his attention: Four passes, and the possibility for wild Pokemon, which excited him as his team was so small and uncooperative. But what caught his attention more was the claim that they were being monitored. Luka glanced around, unsettled. The idea of ghost Pokemon watching him from the brush didn't bother him, but some sort of surveillance to see how he was doing... he didn't like that. Especially because said surveillance almost caught him not only beating up a kid, but then stealing from him.
When the boy took his hand, Luka helped him up. "Gotcha." He scrapped all previous plans of robbing the werewolf-clothed kid. He could win this event fair and square, anyways. He didn't need to cheat. Get them out safely... or subdue them. "And if I catch it instead?" He noticed the kid hadn't said anything about that. Was it not allowed? And was the prize worth passing up on wild Pokemon, if he wasn't meant to catch them? Probably not.
Now that he'd gotten what he wanted from the boy, he was eager to get going. "Cool, thanks! I'll look for a pup then," he said before offering a sheepish grin, "And sorry for knocking you on your ass. Mink, Kaz." Obedient or not, the Pokemon took their names to mean the train was getting moving again. Both were eager to see what was down the path.
There was something disarming about the boy, where even the Mankey had lost his temper after being startled into doing something foolish. "Watch yourself," he warned as they passed. As blunt, and possibly threatening as the words seemed, it was the closest thing the Pokemon came to being thoughtful.
Kaz bounded after them, though he slowed a bit when beside Oakley, studying the boy as he passed. His voice was familiar. His entire demeanor was familiar. But with the costume, Kaz couldn't quite place it, and soon enough the Grookey was darting off after his trainer.

Oakley
| Oakley paused as he was helped up, frowning a little at the question posed by the other male. "The cub? Oh you can't, its another performer like me, his prompt was...." he got to before he covered his mouth again, shaking his head this time so hard the ears either side of his head flopped back and forth. "I dont know how the kaitos deal with this" the boy muttered, reaching up to correct his costume as the other trainer spoke again.
"Oh, right. Well wild pokemon could be caught in here, but like, dont. As for the others, they are all performers, so like people or peoples pokemon, so it wouldnt work even if you did try" he went on, sighing as he caught himself again. "Look, im going to get written up either way, im meant to be all growls and barking and no words, but thank you and good luck!" the boy said as the man began to ready himself to leave, pressing himself back in to the edges of the berry trees to try to disappear again, only to catch his arm on a branch and swat at himself as it bent backwards.

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
'But like, don't.' Luka almost laughed, finding this boy to be as entertaining as he was useful, spilling as much information as he did. It was almost worth sticking around to ask him more questions, but Luka was eager and impatient to get ahead in this maze. He also couldn't promise not to attempt to catch a wild Pokemon, if he found one.
Once they were out of earshot, Luka couldn't help but tease them. "Did you hear that guys? They're performers," Luka reiterated, poking fun at the two Pokemon who grew a dash sulky with the reminder, "Meaning give them a good look over before pummeling them, alright?" He was feeling optimistic, like they could really win this and whatever 'rare' prize lie at the end. He didn't want that spoiled because his Pokemon were punch-happy.
The trio kept going down the path, all three of them keeping their eyes peeled for a pup, a wild Pokemon, or a performer. Both of the monkeys seemed eager to be first to spot the former, forever in competition with one another.

As the group wandered along, they would quickly find themsleves with a choice to make. There were a series of routes they could take if they kept going forwards, though it was clear there were also a bunch of berry bushes which had been planted in mind to keep lower to the ground and would force the group to have to climb over and around them to pass.
The path off to the right had grey fog curling along its edges, rolling in to the middle and crashing towards like waves to form a roiling sea of grey and black dancing across the floor and slowly filly up the space between the two sides of the path itself. The fog, or smoke, was able to slip back between the berry plants, but seemed not to further up, bouncing back to make the entire route hard to see down.
The final path, turning to the left, was muddy. Very muddy. Footprints in it showed someone had already tried to pass this way once at least, and also given up from the directions offered but looking further down the path showed a series of fake bones and other limbs sticking up out of the very thick looking mixture of dirt, water and arcues knew what.

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
They walked until there was another choice to make. The two monkeys seemed less eager to make a choice for the group now, eyeing the three with uncertainty. None of them looked particularly nice.
Luka didn't take long to decide for himself. Mud was miserable to walk through, and the plants seemed like a pain in the butt as well. Of course walking through mystery mist wasn't ideal either, but it was the easiest of the three, and it felt spooky which had been one of the draws for the boy in the first place. "This way," he demanded, and without seeing if his Pokemon followed or not, he headed confidently down the path with the fog rolling heavily down it.
Mink and Kaz were the closest to one another that they'd ever chosen to be, just because they stuck right at Luka's heels now that it was so hard to see. It was impossible to look for the pup in this fog, but he listened for it. "Hereeee pup pup pup," he called out, much to his spooked Mankey's chagrin, the fuzzy little fighting-type bumping him in the leg to get him to shut up. Luka laughed, loudly asking, "What, you don't like me making noise in here? Afraid of what might hear me?"
After witnessing the maze's first attempt at a scare, Luka had a feeling he could take whatever else it wanted to throw his way.

Moving in to the fog, it quickly became clear that while some of this as indeed effects being put on by the event and so probably started as dry ice or something to that effect, it was being used by someone else now. The more the group moved forwards, the more the path in front of them became harder and harder to make out until they were surrounded by fog, able to make out one and other only.
The ground became hard underfoot, almost like walking on stone and a soft noise could be heard drifting past the group. Something banging on rock? A tool? A chain? Footsteps? Whatever it was, it was walking along beside the group before a flash of orange eyes appeared in the fog in front of the group, quickly the sound of whatever it had been hurried away, sounding like metal scraping on rock and the group found themselves in front of a large cage, bars bent outwards and edges covered in rust and something silver in color dripping from the snapped bars and coating the bottom of the cage.
A dead end, though.

Luka Hyde Just here for the thrill of it
The fog wasn't spooky until, suddenly, it was.
Luka froze when he heard the sound of banging alongside them. It didn't sound like a pup. it sounded like foot steps, and maybe something dragging. Luka tried to keep the steady uptick of his heart under control, knowing from a rational perspective that there were others in this maze trying to scare him. He could feel the coarse hair of Mink on his leg to the left, and the much softer, shorter fur of Kaz brushing his leg on the right. They didn't like this.
The flash of yellow eyes in the midst made him jump back, tripping over the bigger of the two Pokemon and falling on his backside. The ground was no longer soft, so this was incredibly unpleasant, the area around his tailbone throbbing. Luckily for him, the eyes spooked his Pokemon too, neither of which were eager to bully him for getting scared. Luka got to his feet, sufficiently spooked.
"Come on, come on," he urged, and the trio took the rest of the trail at a much quicker pace. Only for a moment though, before they were stopped at ominous looking bars. Prickles of unease ran up Luka's spine, and he had to commend the makers of this maze for creating a genuinely unsettling atmosphere. He dragged his eyes away from the silver wetness dripping from the bars. "Dead end." Said mostly for himself rather than the others.
The trio turned their back on the bars, and while none of them were eager to walk past the place where they'd heard the large creature and saw the eyes, they had no other choice. They took the path back as quickly as they could, though still not particularly fast, as it was so hard to see.
If they made it Luka knew just what path to take.
He didn't want to be wet and muddy for the rest of this endeavor, so it was the thorny path instead. He also hadn't seen any pawprints in the mud, alongside the other prints he saw embedded there. He wasn't sure if that was a sign of anything, but he took it as one. At least he had Pokemon that didn't struggle, and wound up being the one of the three that found walking over the tall brush most difficult.
