The Shula region is home to many unique individuals, not least of all being the Gijinka. These can essentially be described as a half-human half-Pokemon race with slight abilities depending on their typing and the Pokemon they take after. However, they're anything but simple! We have 3 types of gijinka here in Shula, and ALL gijinka fit into at least one of these types. If your gijinka character doesn't, they won't be allowed, plain and simple! Currently, we have several gijinka onsite. These include (but aren't limited to!) Logan Kaitos, Feral, Lily Night, Milarnie Colt, and Kai Kaitos. If you look at each of these characters, you will see long, complex, and diverse histories, and yet all of them fall into one of the 3 following types. They also do not repeat species- there is never more than one type of gijinka onsite at any given time! For example, since we have an Umbreon gijinka canonical to the site lore (see the Kaitos family adoptables), there CAN'T EVER be another Umbreon gijinka. Same goes for any other type- if there is a Zoroark gijinka on-site, for example, there can't ever be another one unless the first one dies or is removed. Of course, there is one exception to this rule, such as in the case of the Night twins (who were naturally born twins IC). This was an event and is unlikely to ever happen again (see the post on naturals below for more information why), but in the unlikely event of a character carrying a natural gijinka child, we will roll to see the outcome of the birth. In the event that twins or triplets are rolled and adopted by players OOC, more than one of the same species will be permitted. If you have any other questions, please read through the remainder of this thread before asking them! If not covered in this thread or here, then feel free to ask!

TYPE ONE - GENETIC FAILURE
The second most common type of gijinka, and the first category of experimental creations by Team Rocket in which the engineered DNA of a Pokemon is forcibly inserted into a human egg and a child is created, quite literally half and half. Due to this process being artificial and the specifics being kept extremely under wraps, the only people capable of creating these children are/would have been in or affiliated with Team Rocket. Regarding this specific outcome, classified as Type 1 or 'Genetic Failure', the mother didn't care for the child in question. They felt no love or compassion for their child, and thus the genes merged but did not present or show when the child was born. Compassion and the changing hormones associated with it kickstart the changing of a child's body in the womb, so...without love or compassion there is no hormone shift, and without the hormone shift a gijinka's Pokemon traits will remain dormant until they're activated by some sort of hormonal change after their birth.
The result of this is that these children can go for years living life as a 'normal human' without any issue. To change and grow their gijinka parts such as ears, tails, paws, or anything else, they need to experience something emotionally explosive- The death of a loved one, falling in love for the first time, or even the revelation that they were never loved at all- all of these and more could work. The idea behind this all is that Pokemon need a bond for their true power to shine through, and the same goes for gijinka- if a mother didn't form that sort of emotional bond with their child, the child needs to make its own bond. When this sort of emotionally explosive event occurs, they change and gain their powers, and from that point onward they age at a human rate (unlike all other gijinka). Luna Sallow and Vallon Pierce would be examples of this type onsite.

TYPE TWO - GENETIC SUCCESS
These are in essence exactly the same as the first type of gijinka, aside from one final piece: their mother. With this category of artificial gijinka, their mother loved them as their child, not caring that they wouldn't be 'normal'. This already-established bond between mother and child allowed the genes to shift during the child's development, and as a result it was born 'correctly' as a gijinka with whatever relevant bits included. These children are born fully presenting their gijinka genes, from birth having their abilities such as understanding Pokemon speech and any abilities relevant to their typing. These abilities may all be learned and controlled from birth (rather than their failed counterparts, which would suddenly gain all their powers at once and need to learn to use them from scratch). These are the most common type of gijinka in general, due to Team Rocket's experiments in the creation of gijinka. Logan Kaitos, Kai Kaitos, and any of the other Kaitos children would be examples of this type onsite.

TYPE THREE - NATURAL
The rarest and most misunderstood type of gijinka, these gijinka are often considered the stuff of legend...or perhaps the stuff of fairy tales. The only true way for a natural-type gijinka to successfully be created is when two people who love each other and want to be a family (but otherwise cannot) pray to the legendaries for their aid. Rarely, a legendary Pokemon might actually respond to their plea, and it will judge them on whether or not they're truly fit. It's not standard what these judgements are, or what the aspiring parents have to do specifically to be even given the chance to have a child- all that's agreed on is that if the aspiring parents prove themselves, they're given the chance to have a child, and the child born would have Pokemon features. Not only are these gijinka rare, however, but they are also extremely dangerous births- in the rare event that a mother is pregnant with a natural-born gijinka, there's a very high chance that there'll be complications during the birth. These gijinka, like their successful artificial cousins, have their powers from birth. Meanwhile, like their failed cousins, they change through extreme emotional upheaval- in their case, however, rather than gaining their powers, they evolve (which changes their looks and at some times can change their personalities). Lily Night and Feral would both be examples of this type onsite.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please bare in mind that a lot of these notes won't apply to genetic failures due to them being 'human' for most of their life- in this sort of case, some of these will only apply to a character after their gijinka traits appear. How do gijinka age and grow?Due to their crossed DNA, naturals and successfuls grow at 3x the rate a normal human would. To put it into words, at 3 years old they'd look and behave like a 9 year old. At 7, they would look and behave exactly as if they were 21. A character like Logan Kaitos is, in essence, every way 21 years of age- mentally, physically, emotionally -but would only have been alive for 7 years. Most gijinka 'lock out' of this form of aging at a certain time, and though for many it's during puberty or other influential ages there's no real set time for it. This is very similar to the forced change of a Type 1 gijinka, normally brought on by some sort of large emotional moment. At this point, their aging process will slow a great deal and then stop until they catch up with themself- in this process, it's theorized that their more Pokemon genes and hormones become dormant. Using Logan Kaitos as an example again, he stopped aging at 7 years old and won't age further until his age in time catches up with his age in maturity- that is, until 21. At that point, his system will kick in again, and he'll keep aging at a human rate as if nothing ever happened. Can gijinka battle? No, gijinka are half human and this part of them dominates them. They have Pokemon growths and abilities, but not their battling prowess. Can gijinka have moves? As said above, no, but we'll go into more detail here. In a gijinka, their human traits are naturally more dominant than their Pokemon traits, especially when they're growing and developing. Because of this, they get no moves or abilities (at least in the same sense as Pokemon), and can't have their strength rated by levels. The idea of being a gijinka is a plot point, not an excuse for more battles! (As a side note, there is a brief period during a gijinka child's development where they may be caught and put in Pokeballs, more specifically up to the age of 3. This is very unpleasant, however, and doesn't apply to genetic failures as they tend to grow and develop the same as human children.) Can gijinka breed? No. No-one knows why this is, but for some reason, all gijinka are sterile. Professor Maple believes this is because the different sets of human and Pokemon DNA that form a gijinka's genes don't properly align in their system, and thus they can't produce the proper cells or hormones to make their own children. There's no way to humanely test this theory, however. Can gijinka grow/train their powers? To a point. A newborn water type gijinka will not be able to breathe underwater for a whole 5-10 minutes, however a Vaporeon gijinka with a few years spent training in the water might. There's a limit to these powers for a reason- gijinka aren't going to be more OP than humans and we will never let them be! Ask if you don't know what you're doing is okay or not! Do gijinka fear their opposite type? Some do! It's down to the individual. Most are (to a certain extent) more aware of when a Pokemon or gijinka of their opposite type is around them, some even having a reaction like feeling shaky, faint, or nauseous. Some learn to overcome these reactions and get used to it, too- for example, a psychic type could have a dark type on his team, having learned to make himself used to or even comfortable around them. Some, however, dislike Pokemon of the opposite typing and can't stand to be around them. Really, there's no one reaction. However, gijinka do have an easier time raising/being around Pokemon that they share a type with- such as, for example, a Leafeon gijinka with grass types. Dual-type gijinka experience this sort of affinity for certain types, too, but while some might take after both their types equally, some might also have a 'dominant' type. For example, a Pyroar gijinka might primarily behave or take after normal type Pokemon and be more comfortable around normal type Pokemon, though they'd still have fire type attributes. Can a gijinka be a shiny Pokemon?Yes, this is fine and possible. This is very rare and normally leads to mutations or disabilities (just as a shiny type Pokemon would), but it can happen. After all, Annie Night and adoptable ralts gijinka is a shiny! Can a gijinka be more than one Pokemon? This is a creation known as a splice and would only ever happen in the event that a natural-type is taken, already presenting gijinka, and experimented on. The second Pokemon's traits would be activated much like a failure would, and could only happen if someone was experimented on by Team Rocket. These will not be allowed UNLESS the admin and the staff agree on your story and character working out.Can gijinka mega evolve?Even if mega evolution were to become a mechanic on the site, the answer is no. This boils down to the fact that gijinka, again, are dominated by their human traits, especially after they 'lock out' of aging (at which point their Pokemon genes go dormant). From here, apply a stone that tries to react with dormant genes in your body and create new parts...and it's not going to be pretty. Not only would it be extremely painful (probably enough to make anyone pass out), it would also most likely destroy an individual's immune system due to their body not being able to process what's happening to it, resulting in illness hitting hard. To some extent, this knowledge is instinctual to a gijinka- they won't be able to explain it, but a gijinka will always feel queasy or unwell in the presence of mega stones, and would never want to touch one.

POWERS AND ABILITIES Alright, they've been mentioned enough in the posts above that it's about time we get to them: powers! These can be called moves, abilities, skills, or whatever else by each character and RPer as desired, but to sum them up they're very filtered down versions of some Pokemon moves and abilities. Basically, what gijinka get instead of traditional moves/abilities! Not all of these powers are the same and some might seem "better" than others to some, but remember that the point of creating a gijinka isn't their powers! At least, not OOC. The point is the plots, seeing how people react to them and their differences in RP. <3 Also, these are only suggestions, and some gijinka will undoubtedly be different to others. You could be a water type with better natural swimming ability or a ground type with specialized nails/claws for digging, but generally the powers listed below should be used as themes/guidelines. If you're caught abusing these powers to be overpowered IC, there will be consequences! (On the other hand, if you're unsure whether your character should be able to do something, ask a mod!) Without further ado, here's the list! / Normal and Fighting types usually possess stunning athletic abilities, making them well-suited for climbing or parkour. As for what separates the two, normal types are typically more agile and nimble, while fighting types are typically faster. Flying types are usually very lightweight, and typically able to jump higher than the average person might. If they have wings they can also glide, though a flying type gijinka's wings can't really carry them any higher through flapping. Despite being lightweight, they still wouldn't be light enough (or properly shaped) to catch an air current! Poison types typically have powerful immune systems, to the point where they can't really get sick except from an infected cut or something of the like- even then, their bodies are very good at fighting off infection as well. Ground types are very in tune with the earth, and are usually capable of sensing things like faults in the ground; That is, places where the ground might cave in when stepped upon. / Rock and Steel types typically have extremely tough skin. What might cut instead bruises, and what bruises simply glances off. In exchange, however, these gijinka usually dislike the cold or heat respectively, maybe even feeling weaker when faced with it. / Bug and Grass types tend to share the benefit of extremely fast healing, usually healing from cuts and bruises and such much faster than anyone else might. This might even extend to more extreme injuries, but stops short of actual regeneration (and extreme injuries would still require outside medical attention ASAP...) Ghost types often have an affinity for other people's emotions, and often are able to read them with great accuracy. Some can even manage to enhance/dampen others' emotions by a slight bit, given practice! / Fire and Ice type gijinka are often seen as opposites, and for good reason! They typically can stand their own associated temperature very well and might even thrive in it, but on the other hand despise the opposite temperature.
Of course, there are always odd outliers, but regardless of personal preference these gijinka typically suffer in their opposite temperature. Water types usually enjoy a bigger than average lung capacity, one that can even be trained for them to last longer while holding their breath- for up to 5 minutes, in fact! With hard work and dedication some water types are able to reach much further times (up to a full hour, in the rarest cases), though most have only a fraction of that lung capacity at adulthood. Electric types, for the most part, tend to have super static powers! AKA, they build up static electricity very easily, and when giving people static shocks from their jumpers or carpets it really buzzes. Psychic types usually possess a sort of minor telekinesis. Though the level of natural proficiency might vary from individual to individual, typically a trained psychic type gijinka would be able to do little things like picking berries from bushes without bending down or floating a stray pen across their desk towards them. Dragon types typically possess extremely high stamina, as well as a level of natural bulk that the average person would only get through exercise. As a result, they usually win hand-to-hand fights (though, again, these abilities do vary between individuals). Dark type gijinka are often able to see in the dark, whether it be due to specially adapted pupils, thermal cues, or (in rare, very specific cases) even echolocation! Finally, Fairy types have a particular affinity to the world around them, often able to sense incoming weather patterns or big natural events. In addition to this, most gijinka of this type possess natural 'green fingers', making them mysteriously capable of growing berries and other plants faster than average.

● ● ● Sub-Plot - Gijinka
For many centuries, there have been folk tales and legends of children born from alliances between Pokemon and Humans. Though many believed they were merely stories to tell little ones, some people believed them...
For years now Team Rocket had been trying to create the ideal fusion of Pokemon and Human, loyal to them and them alone with the ability to both think and use Pokemon moves. And...well, it didn't necessarily work.
Many subjects were put through rigorous testing and experiments. Humans and Pokemon alike were almost tortured as Team Rocket carried out their ambitious plans, but they lacked the one thing needed to make the fusion work: compassion for the child created.
But...after many years of testing, something happened. Progress.
A trainer, new to the region but with a dark past, found a family of Pokemon better for her than any human ever was. And...somehow, some way, she bore two children with psychic type features- twin girls.
At the same time, Team Rocket carried out their first successful test. A woman forced into theory labs by a family accident was given the DNA of a Pokemon and forced to bear a litter of 3 children. Contrary to what she'd suffered, however, she didn't feel any hate for them.
No, she cared for her 3 children, and thus they were born as gijinka.
The tests continued until 9 were born from the DNA of that Pokemon, each child different from the others. Soon after the final litter the family, knowing of Team Rocket's plans for them, broke out of the labs and fled into the dead of night.
... That didn't matter, though, because a third and final type of gijinka was revealed when a scientist re-found an old test subject. The subject was a child born from an uncaring mother given the DNA of a Pokemon, just as every test before...unlike the case of the first successful litters, however, she had no love for her child.
When the poor girl was put through huge emotional upheaval, she began to change, revealing her true gijinka form to the world.
And just like that, that was it. 3 types of gijinka were all given to the world, the stories and legends of ages past plainly shown to be true. One question remained to answer, however...
Would the new forms be shunned by those who deemed them unnatural? Or would they be taken with welcoming arms as merely another walk of life?
Things just got a lot more complicated in our once peaceful region...
