Evolution can be a complicated thing, as can breeding. That's why we're here to help! In this post below will be listed all you need to know on various methods of evolution.
METHODS OF EVOLUTION
Leveling Up: The most straightforward method of evolution. A Pokémon that evolves at a certain level must be at or above that level to evolve, obviously, and in some cases (such as in the case of Combee into Vespiquen) must be the right gender.
Trade: Some Pokémon need to be traded with a different trainer to evolve, and more might need to hold a special item or be traded for a certain Pokémon in the process. To perform these evolution trades on-site, you will need a permission form () from the shop.
Knowing a Specific Move: Some Pokémon need to know a specific move to evolve, like how Lickitung must learn Rollout to evolve into Lickilicky.
Evolution Stones: If a Pokémon requires a specific stone to evolve, it needs to come into contact with the stone and (if applicable) be the right gender. However, these items are not just found randomly- they can either be bought in the shop or received in a special site event.
Held Items: A Pokémon that needs to be holding a special item as it levels up to evolve needs to be specifically holding that item when it levels up. Sometimes it will also need to be a certain time of day in-character when that Pokémon levels up, like in the case of Gligar to Gliscor.
Location: Some Pokémon will need to be in a specific place to evolve. Normally these places are within the Pokémon's native region, but here in Shula there are places that mirror those conditions so these Pokémon can evolve.
These locations are as follows:
Glacier Mountain = Route 217, Mount Lanakila & Twist Mountain
Maplemaze Forest = Eterna Forest & Pinwheel Forest
Faraday Plains = Mt. Coronet & Chargestone Cave
Atlas Field = Dusty Bowl Bridge
Happiness: Gaining Happiness is simple enough! You need to post with the Pokémon you want to evolve in a thread, and if the thread furthers your character's bond with the Pokémon then it can gain a .
You also can gain 2 for winning a battle using that Pokémon and 3 for winning a gym battle with that Pokémon, but you can only count 1 battle per thread- meaning that maximum number you can gain per thread is 3.
Both of the above scenarios only count if the Pokémon doesn't faint. Otherwise, you won't gain any.
Your Pokémon can evolve once they get 10 s, nice and simple. Some Pokémon need this at a certain time of day or even at a certain place, so be sure to keep your Pokemon's evolution requirements in mind.
(As a side note, an Eevee needs to be in the lovely Oasis City with full happiness to evolve into Sylveon.)
Misc Notes: To those it may affect, due to the changing of seasons here Pokémon like Leafeon and Sewaddle may be flavored as changing their appearances for each season- this, however, is optional, and doesn't count as evolution.
Also, abilities may be shifted to be based on seasons- snow warning only working in Winter, drizzle in Spring, drought in Summer, and sandstream in Autumn. This is to save from power playing or general annoyance all year.
This is "optional" based on common sense. No, snow warning will not trigger in Oasis City in mid-Summer, however in early Spring in Hindors town it could work. If in doubt, discuss the scenario with your RP partner or ask the staff.
There are also some special cases concerning certain evolution methods, detailed below.
Special Cases:Got all that? If you have any questions, feel free to contact the staff or visit the FAQ!
- When a Tyrogue evolves, the trainer may choose what they want the Pokémon to evolve into since we don't calculate stats. Same goes for Toxel, since nature isn't a mechanic on-site. The only requirement for either is that the chosen evolution should be alluded to before it actually happens- for example, a Tyrogue evolving into a Hitmontop might like to move and dance a lot, so on and so forth.
- When a Nincada evolves, the trainer will not receive both Shedinja and Ninjask- instead, the trainer must choose which evolution they would like. There is nothing stopping you from getting the other evolution later and RPing it as split from the same Nincada, but you don't get both right away!
- Whether a Wurmple evolves into Silcoon or Cascoon will be determined by a dice roll either upon acquiring the Wurmple or upon evolving it, since Shula doesn't calculate IVs.
- What kind of Wormadam a female Burmy evolves into is not up to the trainer, and will be decided depending on the current terrain.
- To evolve a Feebas you must give it a Prism Scale (which can be purchased in the shop) and level it up.
- To evolve an Inkay, it will need to be given a rotate stone. This stone is also necessary for Milcery, in addition to the other item being introduced as you wish. The spinning/rotating must be RPed, however!
For now, though, let's move on to...
