Lily wandered through the winter forest, her breath visible in the crisp air. Snow blanketed the ground, muffling her steps, and the bare branches stretched up toward the gray sky, their limbs adorned with icicles that glinted faintly in the cold light. She wanted to lose herself in the beauty around her, to let the forest's peace help her forget her tangled thoughts about her mother and family, just for a moment.
But no matter how hard she tried, her mind kept circling back to memories and old hurts. Each step felt heavier, each breath more ragged, frustration building with every exhale. Finally, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. With a frustrated growl, she kicked a rock half-buried in the snow, watching as it skidded away and disappeared beneath a drift. "Why can’t I just let it go?" she whispered, her voice barely audible in the stillness. Exhausted, she dropped onto a nearby log, her shoulders slumping as she hugged her knees, the cold from the frosted wood seeping through her coat.
As she sat there, lost in thought, two warm bodies pressed against her sides, breaking through her haze of frustration. Her Scorbunny and Shinx had curled up beside her, sensing her distress. Scorbunny snuggled close, his fiery warmth cutting through the winter chill, while Shinx rested her head on her knee, looking up with soft, comforting eyes. A small, bittersweet smile tugged at her lips as she reached out, gently running her fingers through their fur.
